True speed after regear formula.

    Did any of you guys try using a GPS to compare "real" vs. speedo. Can also use same technology to compare odometer.

    How difficult is it to regear from 3.73 to 4.10 on a 2nd gen? My mpg sucks with 33"s because most of my driving is done in rush hour traffic each week.

    looking to maybe drop a turbo kit to my 1st gen 4 banger tacoma. (2wd), i was wondering if re gearing is a good idea and if it will help performance and if there is a certain gear set up i should be looking at. my truck is also lowered.

    i have the 3.73 in my 11' running 33's if i switched to the 4.10 would that throw my rpm's higher?

    So does this mean since I am running 275/65/18 I am actually getting better mpg than I think? Would that also mean since I am at stock gearing, my speedo is registering "less miles" than it should be?

    Yes. If you go to tire size calculator under the mods&tutorial tab at the top you can plug in new tire and old tire size. It will tell you the difference in revolutions per mile.

    Hmm... I'm still running a 30.5" tires and I'm re-gearing to 4.10's!

    The V6 motor should be turning @ 2500 to 2600 rpm's @ top cruising speed or @ 75 to 80 mph. I will be @ 2370 rpm's w/ 4.10's @ 75 mph. With stock size tires & 3.73 gears the rpm's are 2155 @ 75 mph. 215 rpm's are not much but should help this truck a lot and should also help performance & gas milage.

    I had a 2013 2.7L w/ a 5 speed manual w/ 3.31 gears and was just getting about 21 mpg daily driving. I changed the tire size to a 1.6" taller tire and the truck turn completely GUTLESS and suck a lot more gas. Went to 3.58 gears and the truck ran just a little better then stock and I was getting 22.95 mpg with daily driving. I then went to 3.73's the milage went to just over 25 mpg with daily driving but it was still on the slow side and was sold to buy the 2015 DCSB with a damn WTF automatic! *I hate automatics* but it's the only way one can get a V6 Tacoma in a 4x2. :mad: I should have installed a set of 3.90's in the 2013 but it's history now. Time to start all over! :eek:

    With the 4.10's, an URD Y-pipe and a quite cat-back the V6 DCSB should run a lot better and get better milage. I also ordering light weight wheels ( for 6 lug wheels they are light weight )

    I don't think it's a good idea to regear for MPG. The savings is miniscule vs cost of gear installation.
