sorry for the late replies, I didn't get a little red notification for some reason so I just now saw them.

im not sure that I had to actually, but it was part of the package I bought and I figured why not. if I had it to do again I wouldn't mess with the spring.

yeah it bolts right on and the mirror adjustment controls work fine. you have to run additional wires to make the turn signals functional but I haven't bothered to do that yet, and I might not.

tanks! (brb measuring) 1/2" actually, might be a bit big. may need to find something finer, I dunno what size these things are. I just used that cause it was all I could find on short notice. :notsure:

someone on tw should really make a mod kit for this and sell it, could be profitable for someone.

Hey man, where did you get your pigtail connector for the hvac controls? I've been searching for some time and only find ones for the 05-11 models.

that my fiend is a long story.

    (insert long story here)

the short version is that I had to buy two sets of controls, the second one still having the pigtail stuck in the back where it was cut loose from the harness, and I resold the spare set. check the tw marketplace and ebay and you'll eventually find one.

I was afraid of that. I keep checking but either they don't have just the pigtail or the assemblies don't come with the pigtail. I'll just keep waiting, lol. Thanks.

Quick question though, can you not depin the factory harness and then pin the wires into the new connector in the their corresponding spots? I was going to swap the rheostats to solve the hot on cold and cold on hot problem.

you might could cold call some salvage yards and ask them if they have that bit or will remove it.

don't even get me started about those molex pins, I cant de pin (or even pin) one of those for anything. I tried that approach first, which is why I didn't care that the control set didn't come with the pigtail. boy was that a mistake. I fought with those and they just refused to cooperate!

I tried following the mod in this thread for it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2012-climate-control-in-2011-and-under-tacoma.259754/page-3 the last post in that thread says he has some spares, pm him and see if he can hook you up. (pun intended)

im pretty sure the new pins are smaller so even if you can depin them it wont fit into the new connector housing. some people can make it work, but I was not one of them. it was easier to teach myself how to solder and cut and splice the harness.

Admiring your build thread when I saw this pic and said horyyy sheet, that's right beside Larry's. I am quite envious of that front end conversion, it's on the back end of my list because it's superficial but man it makes your truck look meaner.

you must live nearby then to recognize that!

tanks! yep I hear that often! :jellydance:

there is only one other guy on tw that has done it in swb that im aware of. link: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/not-exactly-new.475229/#post-14416187

it was a big project for sure, but I have had no regrets. if toyota hadn't discontented swb in 2011 I might have traded for a 12-15 like it, but after seeing the new third gen I was sold on keeping my second gen.

At my previous job SouthArk was my sales ground, I also grew up down the road a piece where they have one of the finest seafood buffets around. I'm still up that way some to slip into the woods or do a little fishing up around the camp in Felsenthal.

I'm in the same boat, Speedway Blue was the first time I saw a Taco and said damn I need that truck. The 12-15 interior and clip just looks cleaner, but while the old lady is still finishing up school more involved mods are having to wait.

well next time you are in the neighborhood let me know and we can compare notes.

yep same here. my only regret is that I didn't have a first gen in my hs/college days. would have made trips back home from tech easier. I haven't done much since the conversion tho. I need to do the access cab roof rack mod but I just haven't made the time for it. I need to do that soon I think while there is nice weather and it isn't eleventeen million degrees outside with 300% humidity.

Will do, hopefully when I come back up y'all haven't gotten quite as much rain so I can slip into a couple of holes and make sure 4wd is still working.

Ought to be hitting that sweet spot between pollen+rain and heat+humidity for the next couple of weeks. I can't escape the humidity down here, but I'm glad to escape the pollen those evergreens put out.
