I'm new to my 04 Tacoma and I'm in need of a good mechanic I can trust here in the East Bay, Walnut Creek area or nearby. The truck is in great shape, but I recently went mudding at Carnegie in Livermore and had to replace the alternator, now I have a whine from the front of the engine. I think its one of the pullies. I can replace those myself, I can do basic stuff, but if something big comes up does anyone know where to go? I just don't want some dude to tell me its my Flux Capasitor an try to charge me an arm and a leg.

I saw that in your thread... You do good work and I'm interested in your rocksliders. I'm working OT that day and can't make it, but I will follow your thread for future dates, thanks!

[IMG] what I dont like is what they dont offer
Any of you northern California Tacoma owners who can give me any suggestions. My complaint is whats with no stock heated seats, i want to buy a 2013 model in a few months... BUT i want the same options the tundra has to offer, and NO i do not want a fat over sized "tundra" I want a tacoma and i am willing to pay for it....
Heated, 8 way adjustable, leather seats, and a sun roof... I live in the bay area and the Toyota dealers in redwood city could careless. all they want to do is sell the freaking "Prius" .. the Burlingame dealers had some full loaded models , BUT could not give me a straight answer as to where i could, or how i could, get the options i wanted.
Any appropriate suggestions would be well appreciated? Or should i buy a ford f-150 fully loaded, with their econ engine and walk away from the Tacoma idea??
    thanks

I'm not sure exactly what suggestions you're looking for here. The spirit of TW is taking the risk and making changes to your Tacoma in order to make it your own.

Talking to the dealer is barking up the wrong tree.

If you buy a Tacoma - will you be able to make the changes you want to get the seats you want? Undoubtably - IF you throw enough time and money at the problem, anything is possible. Will it be a pain in the ass? Oh, you bet it will. With modern air bags and everything.... I remember when a simple swap-out to Recaros was just a bolt-up affair.

Now -if you don't want to do the work yourself - well - have you visited any custom shops to ask them about your idea? Search on TW for "custom shops." to find shops other folks have used, then call or stop by to see if seats and interiors is the kind of customization they do. Lots of small shops have specializations. E.g. Jerry does metal fab work.

The simplest solution is always to buy a truck that already has what you want on it from the factory. So yeah, if F150 can be had with the seats you want from the factory - well, you'll spend a lot less headache by visiting "your local ford store."

But if you want a TACOMA with those seats - you can have it, but you're gonna have to work for it.

Not trying to flame you here -- hope you find this advice to be helpful.
