TSB-0063-18 A/C issue

Anyone have this TSB work done on their truck? If so, what symptoms were you having and what was the outcome of the work performed? Thanks in advance.

 

Just a little bump

 

Mine has no problems but I just have it done anyways. Now it’s a lot better. It has linear pull when accelerating . After a thousand miles on the new program, it mellowed down a bit but still better than the original program. Holds 5th gear longer and no longer down shifts hard on 4th or 3rd gear on slight inclines. I wouldn’t even know it downshift to 5th.

 

Umm I know every one sees TSB now and thinks about the ECU update. This one being asked about is in regards to the AC

Does this include the height pitch harmonic sound that sometimes happens during acceleration? Only happens when a/c in on . Sounds like when you lightly touch the edge of a wine glass with your fingertip

 

Yes, I am having this TSB done on my truck. I took my truck in last week for my AC blowing warm air on hot days when the engine is at idle. Along with getting the TSB 62-18 done and the 5k service. Unfortunately some of the components for the 63-18 are on back order and they told me that it will be about a month before they come in.

The symptoms I had were when running the AC on hot days, it would blow nice cool air as long as I was driving at speed. But as soon as I stopped at a stop light, the air coming out of the vents was noticeably warmer. Unacceptable for a new truck. Thankfully there was this TSB 63-18. It involves installing a cooling fan in front of the AC condensing coils along with sensors and other stuff...

 

What is involved in performing this TSB. What do they actually do?

 

A lot! TSB 63-18 is about 60 pages long. In a nutshell, it involves running wires through the firewall and installing a large fan in front of the radiator. I’m trying to find the full TSB. When I find it, I’ll post it. Someone else here will likely beat me to it

Do u guys think the 2019 will come stock with this new fan?

 

I think if enough dealers are having to implement this TSB and install the fan, that would trigger Toyota recognizing this as a serious oversight on their part and they would either start installing this fan on all Tacoma’s or have their engineers redesign the AC system to eleminate the problem from another angle.

 

Yup, I saw that too. You can see the whole TSB if you run it through the Imgur app. I was trying to figure out how to create a PDF through the app and apparently you can’t.

When I took my truck in for service last week, they said they would have to verify that there was an issue and they did. The parts are on order already. I’m just waiting for the call to say that they parts are all in. The service guy said it would be about a month (back order)

 

I looked at the TSB and there’s a lot of work to just put a fan in front of the condenser- why not just have it turn on with the AC? The TSB is talking about putting in a temp sensor near the blower in the cab and having to remove the air bag to do it, etc. isnt the condenser the first radiator behind the horns?

 

Been trying to understand this TSB... wish the TSB had a schematic or description of new mode of operation. Guess I will have to try and figure it out by seeing what pins it hooks to... maybe

I didnt see any mention of an interior temp sensor (but it is very long) @OnHartung'sRoad . You remember where in the tsb it was?

... I also didnt see them do anything with techstream, but it is in the parts list....

Anybody had the installation that can say if new fan runs with ac on, or what?
