Another option is to take it to a place that does spring. I took my 05 Tacoma Prerunner in this morning to City Spring and they added a leaf spring to both sides. This raised my back end by about an inch and a half to two inch's. It took all the load of of my overload spring. All said and done 160 buck. Drives better to.

It does matter what you call it, because it is two separate issues.

The slip joint noise is heard/felt on gravel roads through the steering wheel.

What DestroyerFan is desribing in his question is the lunge felt when the AC compressor kicks in when you come to a stop.

    So two separate symptoms.

I quite honestly don't see the need for this fix. I'll have to look and see if the overload spring is under tension now, but I have hauled motorcycles, pulled my 19' travel trailer, both for 1000s of miles without problems. The rear end seems pretty high already. Maybe it was done by the dealer before I bought it.
I've got 107K on it now, it had 19 on it when I bought it 2&1/2 yrs ago..

I went in to have them look at it after I read earlier threads about the fix, I was thinking I better get it done..

    I'm a believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it..

Actually, the "lung" is felt when I release the brake after coming to a stop. Is the AC compressor always running? Because the lung happens with the AC off.

If you search "lurch" and "lunge" on the forums there is a ton of info and ideas, most agree it is the AC compressor. All Tacomas do it. I will have to agree with your questioning of it though if it is happening with the compressor off. I got used to it pretty quickly. When I first got the truck, I posted the same question as you, and the overwhelming response was AC, however, I think there was also mention of the ABS system, something to do with not being able to brake and accelerate at the same time as a safety measure. Once I got used to it, I stopped wondering.

OK, so i went to my dealership on my last oil change and asked the guy in the service department about my truck suspension being "mushy" (his term not mine) when under load. He said no problem and would order the parts after warning me the truck will be rouhger when unloaded, I said that doesn't bother me it is a truck.

Fast forward three weeks, I call the service department to see if the parts came in to to have the rear TSB done, the women in the service department had no idea what i was talking about and says she needs to do some research and asks to call me back the next day.

Next day, she calls me and I am expecting good news . . . wrong! She tells that the parts are on back order because of the tsunami that hit Japan! WTF!

I need guidance is she BSing me or should I go to another dealership to have this done?
I have also gotten the excuse that because my truck is a 2011 the parts could be on hold since it is so new.

What you need to do is call Toyota and explain what your truck is doing and get a case number.
Then you have to have the dealer inspect it to see if it's defective and needs any work. Get an estimate in writing. Then call Toyota back. Being a new truck, I'm not sure if you even need to go through Toyota, but based on what you wrote, I would work with another salesperson at the dealership.

    Yeah.
Finally got my new rear springs, rides better all around! I played it safe and got a case number and had Customer Care give me the TSB before taking the truck in -- told Customer Care that I had taken it in before and they were clueless on several issues (I had taken it in for radio replacement and fixing rattles before in case they looked -- radio broke within 3 weeks and rattle was still there driving it off the lot).

Rookie question: I bought my used 2005 TRD Off Road about a month ago. I read through some of the TSB and am not sure if the previous owner ever got the work done. The truck has 59.9K miles on it. Am I able to get some TSB's done at no cost? Will they be covered under any type of warranty? Most notably, I'd like to get the 6spd clutch chirp done.

Last week Toyota sent a TSB to dealers regarding a clutch defect on 2005-2011 Tacoma with the 4cylinder, 5 speed manual.

Basically, the TSB says that if your 2005+ 4cyl 5spd doesn't engage in all gears, there's a good chance that it was a result of defective clutch friction material.

You can read the whole story here: http://www.tacomahq.com/758/tacoma-tsb-5-speed-manual-clutch-disk-defect/

Wow, that's crazy. I have this combo (08) and haven't experience this problem after nearly 50k miles. However, this will come in handy if it does start happening. Thanks!

ive been complaining about my clutch since I got my truck. can't get it into gear at times.

where is the actual TSB? I'd like to have it when I go to the dealer/call Toyota.

    T-SB-0066-11

I've been to the TacomaHQ site but that's just a summary of the TSB.

My dealer blew me off with the rear leaf pack. Hauling a light load and bottoming.

My throwout bearing sounds bad at 10k. "crunchy" is the term I'd use. Maybe the clutch tsb?

Do dealers get paid to turn down tsb repairs?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the dealers come out ok on TSBs.
I believe they get a fixed amount based on estimated time it should take. (similar to a recall) if they can get it done in less time than the estimate, then it's even more profitable.. I could be wrong..

dealer has to look at it and diagnose if you have a case number from Toyota. I just had the leaf springs done. Unfortunately I believe my clutch is affected now :(

I have not been thrilled with the new clutch assembly (I previously had a '97 with ) on the 2008 and it is not smooth. It tends to not go into gear at times, particularly 3rd and the dealer has noted it since I bought the truck new.
