Regarding the rear-spring TSB, I am still within warranty. Should I make an appointment or should I just show up and say 'I experience a harsh ride when the bed of my truck is loaded with heavy equipment, and am eligible for the rear spring tsb.' ? Should I be expecting a line of questioning or would that be sufficient? I read the most recent version of the TSB and I don't think it has much info regarding customer symptoms aside from 'harsh ride' being one of the key phrases.

I don't have any warranty above the factory warranty, and I have not yet touched the suspension....aside from adding the Helwig rear bar which may need removed before heading in.

For the harsh ride TSB, they will definately look to see if your bump stops have been hitting or not. They will also give you a speech about your ride being rougher after the mod is done.

I think it depends on the dealer. I just got mine done at Mall of Georgia Toyota. They didn't give me any trouble, just the whole speech about how it would give a harsh ride all the time. Wrong! I like it. Not much stiffer and less body roll.

I printed a copy of the tsb and took it when I went for my last "free oil change" per Toyota care. told them I had a "harsh ride when loaded" and it was right at the bump stops with as little as 400 lbs. Got it done with no problems.

Both good points, the dealer "should" look at the bump stops but that isn't always true, it really depends on the dealer. I took mine in when it was 3 days past the warranty and dealer 1 took it for a test drive UNLOADED and proclaimed it was fine and wouldn't do anything more. Dealer 2 had 2 guys bounce up and down in the bed and never test drove it and then wouldn't help me any more, so hopefully your dealer is better than either of mine.

I mentioned it the other day to my service adviser when getting my 10k service. He said he never heard of issues with the trucks.

Guess it's because their main vehicle they sell are Prius.

Will have to chase this one down. Wondering though, after mkt springs, do you still have a smooth ride and ability to carry load without bottoming out?

And if they add the fix, does it really make the ride harsh?

The second dealer I went to told me the same thing. I can't speak from experience as I still have the original 2+1 springs but I have 2 helper springs (front and back) on both sides and it has firmed up the ride enough so it doesn't sag when loaded and doesn't sway in corners but it's far from being harsh. I really serious doubt you'd dislike the 4 leaf ride, but if you can afford aftermarket springs that would be the most ideal solution.

Thanks, I can and will look into what kind to get from suggestions here as I pull my boat at times also, which adds a couple of hundred pounds to the tail also.

Thanks guys! I didn't realize they were going to check for bumpstop impacts, but again I guess it is dependent on the dealership. More than likely, I'll remove the sway bar... I'll just tell them that it was loaded with firewood and the ride was harsh on multiple occasions.

FYI - My experience wasnt too bad. I have a 2012, and even though the 2012 is technically not covered in this TSB, when I went to the dealer in Raleigh, NC, a service tech came out to talk to me, I explained that I wanted to get new rear leafs. He did the whole "rough ride" speach, and said if I'm sure I want it, no problem at all. Made an appointment, and had it done a week later free of charge. He was very familiar with the issue. He did make me purchase new U-bolts for him for my lift though. Only because they are an aftermarket part.

Very nice, and how is the ride now, mellow, stiff firm? I realize it is a bit subjective, but your thoughts.

Mine said they had not heard of it either but having the copy of sure seemed to help. The dealer I used I know had already done it for others. This dealer does high volume, don't know if that helps or not?

As for the ride I like it better. It's not harsh to me, can't tell much difference but its been less than a week and haven't hauled anything yet.

I took mine in Friday, explained that when I have the bed loaded with heavy cargo that the drive and ride is very harsh and uneasy especially when I go over bumps, and also that it feels like it sags. 20 minutes later, the service rep came out and said they were going to order a new rear spring set for me.

I didn't mention the tsb because I was still in play-dumb mode, so i didnt ask if they were going to give me the 3+1 tsb spring cause I'm just still the uninformed customer to that dealer.

Edit--Done! What a painless experience and I got to use a free loaner for a day.

So, noob question; will a dealer replace parts effected by TSBs if the vehicle is out of warranty? How is a TSB different from a recall? Just some parts could be effected?

Has to be under warranty. A tsb is basically for the techs to be aware of a potential problem. It's not a recall but they may fix a problem if it pertains to it. It's a judgement on their part but does have to be under the 3/36 warranty.

Well, today I took my truck to the dealership...

Not so good news for Tacos in Mexico... They told me that they only have one TSB for Mexican Market: the one of the clock spring...

So, with that in hand, I printed the TSBs that apply to: Abnormal Blower Motor Noice (T-SB-0162-11), Rear spring Harsh ride (T-SB-0359-10), Steering Intermediate Shaft Rattle Noise(T-SB-0057-12), Tacoma Driveline Vibration Between 15mph-25mph (T-SB-0249-12)

And with my VIN number I politely asked them to solve the problem, they made a research but found nothing!

I gave them a copy of everything and they will start an investigation with the corporate, lets hope they accept it and ship everything!
