I need to call my dealership. My 08 is still under an extended warranty. I need to see if they'll do the leaf spring TSB...

Make sure they put on the four leaf pack and not the so called "beefed up" three leaf pack as that one did nothing for my 08

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Looks like Toyota issued a TSB for the 2012-2014 engine pinging issue. Can anyone get a copy?

Yeah. It specifies the 4 leaf pack in the TSB. At 90K, my truck rides pretty rough. If they'll do the leafs, it'll save me some money. I already new stuff to replace the rest of the suspension.

Reagrding TSB / T-SB-0305-08 Rear Suspension Service Bulletin:

I just bought my 2007 DCSB two weeks ago from the dealer and also purchased the extended warranty. The truck when purchased had 29,910 miles on it and I am noticed the harsh ride when I had to cut down some mesquite trees in the back yard and haul to the land fill. As this truck is new to me and have had it only 2 weeks I am hoping the dealer will be accommodating to me and resolve this TSB issue for me under my factory ( albeit extended ) warranty . . .

    Thoughts Or Experiences ? ? ?

    Yeah.
All depends on the dealer, how good a customer you have been or they expect you to be, how busy their service department is, and how much "goodwill" they have been dishing out. This wouldn't be covered by Toyota under warranty past 36 months, but there are things the dealer can do.

Appreciate your time and thoughts on this, I'm going to drop by and inquire and see what the dealer response will be. Never hurts to ask and I'm hoping for something positive . . .

What are your thoughts so far? Has the knocking returned? Are you seeing any difference in performance? Debating on getting this done to my '13...

Seems to behave better on really hot days for low speed acceleration (25 to 30 mph and 1500 to 2000 rpm-ish) after sitting at really long lights. Instead of knocking as before, it seems to just downshift instead. So far so good.

The Dealer looked at the truck yesterday and road tested the rear springs with a calibrated load. I was told the springs are within spec and do not need to be replaced. When asked the reply was that I would need to purchase the TSB Spings out of pocket and that the ride would be harsher than it is now since I plan to drive around without a load in the bed lost of the time.I realize some truck owners do carry loads in their work trucks ( pool company guys, construction etc ) which I do not do. Other than the occasional run down to Buttercup with the quads in the back once or twice a year I simply don't have much or at all in the back

The truck being purchased from the dealer with extended warranty and being under 36,000 miles ( my actual being 29,910 at purchase 2 weeks ago ) but was informed that would be bumped up + 40,000 due to the extended warranty. All in all not a bad experience and the parts manager was cool enough to say that when the rear springs do go out of spec ( since this is a 7yr old truck ) to go on and get the Old Man EMU set up as it would be half the cost and twice the ride ( I really appreciated the honesty with No Up Sell ).

To be real I have to say this Toyota Dealership were straight forward without the run around . . .

Holy crap that's amazing! They went through the trouble of putting a calibrated load back there!?
I told mine that my leafs weren't the heavier kind and it bottomed out everywhere because of this and he said no I had the TSB leafs

I said no. No I do not look at them.
    He said yes they were.

I then realized I have gotten further arguing with a four year old, ripped em off and put deavers on.
    Problem solved.

Yea Boss, I saw dude drive out of the dealer lot with my truck and some square box thing in the back, burned up like a 16th of a tank as when I brought 'Thomas' in ( my daughter name it "Thomas the Ice Cream Truck" ) it was dead on center on the fuel gauge and when I drove home it was exactly the needle thickness below center . . .

    Yeah.
I kind of wonder what that load was calibrated at, but it seems that they were straight with you.

Here's my springs opinion based on experience with a 2009 DCSB SR5 and my current 2012 DCSB TRD OffRoad. I also rarely drive with more than a light load.

I had the TSB done on my 2009 because it easily bottomed out just bringing 10 bags of mulch home from Home Depot. Unloaded it was a much stiffer ride and did not handle as well -- not bad at all, but not as balanced. Bilstein 5100's set at 0.85 on the front helped balance it back out when unloaded, and it easily handled heavier loads.

Doing similar mulch loads in my 2012 did not cause it to bottom out, but it did sag. Not sure why, although there have been unverified claims that the leaf pack was redesigned. I now carry a roof top tent and bike rack most of the time (about 200 lbs.), more when loaded with camping gear. I just put airbags in to adjust for the different loads and it is fine.

I don't think most of the Tacoma models were really intended to be used as a loaded-down work truck all the time. I also think you could say the same thing about any domestic standard truck as well (e.g., Chevy 1500, Ford F150), and unless you step up a little you really don't get the true work truck load handling (2500 or F250).

I tend to agree with the dealer -- probably within spec, and if it ain't free, you are better off going with OME than messing with a new OEM leaf pack.

I had a 95 Nissan Hardbody before this truck (08 Tacoma) I carried crushed rock and other things on the Nissan. When I shoveled it on myself at the quarry, I watched the box and tires to see how much I could put on before it started to drop. My first trip to the quarry with this truck I knew right then, I couldn't carry as much and especially when I paid it was a lot less compared to some years before. I knew nothing about the TSB but knew I couldn't carry as much. A friend with a Tacoma told me about it and next time at the dealer I mentioned it and although the truck was purchased in the US and not in Canada, they replaced the springs with a beefed up three leaf. I am no better off but they did try. These are trucks and should be fitted that way. If you want a car buy a car, if you want a truck and in the off chance God Forbid you might carry something in the back, it should do the job.
