I'm one of very few people in my position that still has a Pension. 98% of new hires don't. We few are systematically being railroaded. That's what I get for being the Old Man on the job with 12 years.

 

Man thats awful. Lost mine last January... glad you can be (and are) there for her. Step dads are a special kind, and i feel for both of you. Definitely keeping you in my thoughts and such.

 

Celebrate well my friend. I've decided that I'm not going to make this one after all. Too much to do, and the heat has slowed me down enough.

 

Oh damn Josh! Your wife, you and the rest of your family have my deepest condolences and sympathy. I'll be adding this to my prayers tonight for sure Brother.

Ironically, that’s one of the main reasons I left mine after almost 18 years. The pension plan was screwin’ Me big time.

Yep, pensions didn't exist for my company after it was bought up for the third time. But they had one in 1981 when I started, and had to keep it up all the way through the Philips years - until it was finally "frozen". People that started only 2 years after me didn't get that choice. Good also was that the latter owners, including Philips had 401K with matching up to 6%. Which I did and duly ignored until last years "pretirement". Old guy on the block as well, but at least they paid me a year to go away! Retirement is just fine, other than watching out for truck expenses!

 

Think we were having this discussion late last night, and I used all my words. I left a sad face for your wife. You know I am feeling for you all.

 

Yeah, my pension is minimal compared to what it would have been by retirement time. Way short of that. The 401K can be rolled over to a new employer, or IRA, and I've started the process to get a one lump sum from the pension that will help me in the transition to getting a new job.

yep, there was some room to spare, not sure I hit the sliders there... but somewhere along there I did hit something..

it was not that bad... few spots where washed out pretty deep. and some mud holes. but I bet you could make it through just fine

 

I might - beautiful trail, and "borderline" for my standards, but I was trying to say I'd never be there by myself! A little lift, the trutrac, have given me more leeway, but I don't carry the equipment (or experience) to take that on alone.

 

Well then.. sounds like a group trip is In order...
