Hi, everyone. I recently gained access to a 2003 4wd Tundra with the v8 engine. Could I swap the whole drive train over to my 2012 4wd Tacoma Base? Has anyone here ever done it?

Not without a shit ton of work. Engine, trans, wire harness, computers, fab work for all the mounts, etc.

With enough time and money anything is possible! I really liked the power train in my 2005 Tundra V8. So much better than the 4.0L .

    A 2005+ 4.7L V8 in the 2014-2015 DCLB Tacoma would be a dream machine.

Go for it and document the Swap!

Didn't some generation(s) of 4Runner's have the V8 option? Maybe some parts interchangeability with a Tacoma. There was a recent series of YT videos of a guy that swapped a Landcruiser pickup body on a 4Runner chassis. Pretty sure it was a V8. Did a nice job of it.

If you aren't good at fab work, electrical, reading & understanding wiring diagrams, and have a ton of time on your hands I would advise against it.

Have a read through the threads below so you can get an idea of what hurdles there are with swapping, alot more to it than just dropping in a different engine and trans.

The Tundra Access cab is a nice ride. Especially the 05-06 with extra HP and A750. The 6.5 foot bed is sweet too! I don't know why more people don't appreciate or like them. . My dream tundra would be a regular cab V8 8 foot bed 4x4. I know they made them in 2000-04, but not sure about a V8 4WD reg cab in 05-06

You should check out that 4.6 build thread, it is a very impressive project. He's still working through some final electrical items, but all of the mechanical work is very clean and informational.

I loved my 02 tundra access cab with the V8. If I hadn’t needed more backseat room for kiddos I’d still have it. Ended up trading it in for the 2013 Tacoma I have now.

I'd leave both vehicles intact and build one into a dedicated trail rig. Just my two cents.

Why would you want to do that? I don’t see a point to it. Doesn’t make sense. It would be many many hours of work and a lot of $$$. You’d need more expertise and mechanical knowledge than it sounds like you have. And when you got through you’d have a Taco with a V8 with lots of potential problems. And when you go to sell it it would be a hot mess, few people would want to buy it.
Sell the Tundra and fix up the Taco. Or sell the Taco and fix up the Tundra. Or you have 2 older vehicles, sell them both and get a newer truck. Or just drive them both until they die and then get a Prius.

That'll be a lot of driving.

Hope you're rust-proofing up there in the northeast, OP.
