Depends how much modification you want to do. Sounds like the LS swaps are a decent amount of custom work but put out power easily all motor. Where as you could do a forged 3rz can make similar power but more work will be done on the tuning end.

The only problem I have with the ls1 is I can't find anyone who has an adapter for the r154 trans, then it'd be pretty easy with a toyota t case.

Instead of a t56 with an atlas

That makes sense. If you can get the tranny adapted, another benefit of the LS swap is the hp/tq holding power of tranny. The 3rz W59 tranny starts breaking around 325-350hp.

Can only find an adapter to the r150f used with the old 3.0 and an r151f.....3.4l?

Not sure how much power they hold

IIRC, they are typically good for ~450hp

Think it'd go good with a stock ls1....surely I won't turn up the power any. Just tired of the noises this 3rz is making

There is an aussie company that makes an ls adapter to r series toyota trannies. But it'll cost more then building up a ls would haha

You'd want to swap to an r series anyways. W59 won't hold much. The r is pretty strong actually. Supra pump 500-600hp through the r154 and the r150 behind a 3.4l is the same tranny just different ratios. It's the tcase that'll nuke haha

Followed by the weak 7.5" clamshell....then the weak 8" rear diff.

That's where the grey area becomes apparent between hp monster vs functional truck with decent power. I go through that struggle sometimes and I have to remind myself I'm not looking for 1/4 mile time slips. Shit...most of the time in the dirt/mud my tires are already spinning only putting ~200hp down at the wheels. I can't imagine how unusable 400whp would be for that purpose

I stayed up till like 2 in the morning and was looking at the differences. R151f has a 4.something 1st gear and the r150 has like a 3.something 1st. The r151f sounds like a good 1st gear to me, just now I wonder about the t case i have bolting up and holding up with the r151f

If you put a 400hp v8 in and drive it hard in 4wd...it likely won't.

The cool part about the v8 is the torque. Find an l33 5.3l v8 and then swap out the heads and cam for a good 350hpish. It'll be a light aluminum v8 and you'll have tons of torque and hp to spare in a light taco.

It'll be hard to make it fit. Involve some custom fab work mainly on the exhaust.

Pick your poison. Tuning for boost...or fabrication and custom parts.

Well, I feel like my 3rz is about to go out. Don't know if I want the turbo lag either....

The only way I can see stressing 4wd is on trails, even then I doubt I'd punch it or something similar

I know with my blower and lower gears, my fat heavy taco gets up and MOVES in the dirt. I bet it's barely pushing 200hp even. Fun as fuck.

Ls would be cool though. And I plan on that. But I also plan on a 9" rear end with a th400 with over drive. 4 link and race kit up front with a bigger front diff as well.

No point in having the power if you can use it. So need nice suspension and brakes.

No matter what, it'll be way more work then you planned and more money :D and be ready for it to take way longer. Engine swaps are not for the faint of heart.

Meh. You'll never out tow a diesel. If you want that. Get a dodge or ford.

No, youre fine buddy. If you have a massive vacuum leak, the engine will misfire horribly. They are only pending so they are not currently happening but have been recorded for analysis now.

Just a fourwheeler on a 8x5 trailer with no ramp. Not heavy at all, just be nice to get up to 70 way quicker

It happened after a 2nd to 3rd gear pull after letting off I fear the worst but I'll check compression and see what happens but it's barley running

I would check all your connections again... sounds like something worked its way loose during the pull.

If you messed up the motor, you would see stored, active codes for issues. Not pending ones. Your check engine light would also flash if you are experiencing 50% or more misfires, which indicates a serious problem. Don't freak out too bad, verify everything is connected and then we can entertain engine damage if the issue is still there.
