What would happen if you did ?

 

Heat soak. Heat is the enemy and will lose power overall. Just save up for a IC and your motor will be happy

 

Charge air becomes too hot, engine no likey. Makes for hotter detonation in the combustion chambers. Less air can get in. Engine gets sort of choked down.......you can damage/blow the engine.

I'd say that it'd be vagely somewhat ok on 4psi or less. The supercharger runs with no IC however the bay is cooler. The turbo is literally connected to super hot exhaust and a lot of heat is conducted to the charge air.

Ultimately I wouldn't. You can get an IC and pipes for like $150. Just save a little more.

 

I agree with everyone else in that its not opportune but its definately do-able. The TRD S/C is many magnitudes worse than any terrible turbo in efficiency. At 9psi on the TRD, intake temps are over 300*F IIRC (there was a thread where a guy mapped out the S/C intake temps; they're not pretty).

Its not opportune and extra care needs to be taken. You need to make sure your tune is solid and you are putting enough fuel in to keep AFR's nice and low but it should be ok.

 

i was messin with my torque app this morning and found the "turbo boost/vacuum" gauge (I know its on the home display but I never use that one so I put this widget on the screen I use) at idle it only goes down to -10.5 psi and at one point on my way to work it said I was making like 8 psi at 40 mph in overdrive and I was getting like 18 mpg according to the instant read out haha, ill be super happy if I can get 18 mpg at 8 psi but I feel like something may be just a little off

You could probably get away with 5-7psi and no intercooler. While everyone is correct about the efficacy of the FMIC, there are several production base turbo kits that bypass the intercooler idea all altogether, proving its potentiality. Just be sure you have a high enough octane rating to ensure cooler cylinder temps and it will be quite possible.

 

I'm pretty sure the 5VZ doesn't have a MAP senor... How does it measure the boost/vacuum?

 

Inaccuractly from what i gather. And im 1gr btw. I assumed that something the ecu was hooked to may have needed and accurate vacuum reading and this just read that signal. It looks like maybe its just off like 15 or so psi haha

Aforementioned hilarity from torque ap. This was goin up the same hill my last vid came from on my build. It hit 17 psi at the very bottom of the hill right at the down shift haha
