I know I'm about about $2700 for my turbo setup and miscellaneous upgrades with it.

So after Google, one post on Haltech forum and 15 minutes I was able to dial in my VVT-i.
Top, left graph is target angle (red) and actual angle (white) [I think it follows well]:
    1st to 5th 60mph

60mph cruise up & down large hill

    Stop to 3rd to stop

25mph up & down small hills

Shame how a "tuner" with 3 days couldn't do this

There's online calculators, almost a simple equation that will give an area on the Spectrograph where to look for knock; the equation gives me 6k hz. The center of the waves was ~6400 hz, so that's where I should set my knock. That's the "fundamental" frequency. The "tuner" set mine to ~11500 hz, the "ringing frequency", which will do NOTHING to stop knock and blow an engine.

I just showed how I enabled and dialed in my VVT-i in less than an hour of work.

I'd bet my freedom this "tuner" hadn't the means/knowledge to verify my ignition coils' dwell time was "spot on" as quickly as he did, especially after experiencing his expertise with the other two items.

Yeah, so this "tuner" probably hadn't the slightest :censored: idea how to do anything, or was playing some bs "hawaiian by birth, American by force" games [unless you've been stationed in hawaii you'd never understand- and by that I mean save your money and take a Caribbean cruise]

I'm relaxed knowing my truck is running butter smooth, but this can't wait to be back CONUS after 6 LONGGGGG years abroad and in hawaii.

@RedLantern you seem like a stand up guy on here, but I :censored: hate hawaii and can't wait to leave this shit hole.
So many Tacomas, no where to drive them. This "tuner" was the straw that broke 'da back bra

I feel you bro. Honestly the “Aloha” is dying here. I’ve seen it starting to disappear over the years growing up here and it’s sad. It’s getting so crowded here it’s ridiculous. Tuners here are crap and limited, and if they say they can do it, they charge an arm and a leg but quality sucks and feel they’re entitled. Kind of why I went the route I’ve gone with my turbo build. Everything was sourced from the mainland for me and Had to do research to get tuned remotely. I’m sorry for what you experienced, it’s just times are changing here on Oahu and the price to live here just sucks.

Glad you got everything running though. That’s what I love about the Tacoma world community. Especially the turbo BS thread. Everyone here is awesome and can’t thank those enough who helped me in my journey over the years!

Ive found that the best thing to do is learn how to use the software and tune the vehicle yourself. You will be much happier, have more fun, and will not be at the mercy of some ridiculous "Tuner" and their bullcrap ego every time you make a change to your setup. Besides, I dont care how good of a tuner anyone thinks they are, you cant nail the tune in one 300 dollar session. Not happening. The vehicle needs to be driven/logged, tweaked, driven/logged, tweaked etc etc.......in all different conditions and load factors..................It might take reading the same stuff over and over, then reading other stuff over and over, then going back to the first stuff and reading over and over, till you really get it. So worth it. This is the missing link for alot of guys who spent all kinds of money on there vehicle for performance, and just never do this, so the full potential of the setup is never realized.

I learned this years ago and have never looked back. The one and only time ANYONE touches any of my vehicles for any reason is for the dreaded state emissions test, and I absolutely cannot stand it. Put in the time, do the reading, stay active in the forums for the software you use and ask your questions...........and stay away from Facebook...............the unsearchable black hole of information that is killing good forums like this.

I agree. I know very little about tuning yet. The way I see it though, if someone else can learn to do it I'm sure I can as well. That goes for anything, not just tuning. Maybe I make a few mistakes here and there but I learned. Hopefully it wasn't at too high of a cost. I'd be broke paying labor for all the time I've put into my truck if I hadn't learned to do it myself.

FB is searchable, there's just a very large quantity of nonsense to sort through.

Make no mistake- Facebook will be, and already has been the death of many solid forums........and its content is eratic and very difficult to pull good data from. People go into facebook groups with questions and get good answers, which are soon after buried by an endless stream of crap. This is the abyss that is the last place this good info should be......Rather, it should go to a solid forum related to the topic, where Google can easily pick it up in a search and be found by anyone who looks for it for years to come.....sorry.....I may have already ranted about this here, cant remember.

The closer to stock, the easier it will be to get things going and start logging and learning as you would be dealing with way less unknowns.........which is what tuning is all about, using any known you can to figure out the un-knowns. Im not familiar with the HPtuners really but would like to hear more about them/it.

its huge for GM tuning. i have a friend who took their tuning classes as well so i need to reach out to him and see if he might want to give a hand fiddling with it.
