I never ran an EGT on my truck just because I'm not pushing it hard enough to need one right now. If I go above 20 psi then I'll consider it.

With the weight of my truck and the long passes I drive I thought it was a good idea. Especially not being super confident in the stock ecu handling boost.

Running lean makes a difference. I run my stuff fat for the extra cooling and not trusting the ecu also

I have a few more things for sale if Anyone is interested...I’ll post a thread in the next few days but this may be of interest to some here.
I have a 3” aluminum MAF adapter with flow straightener inside. It was used with the 1gr maf when I had it on my truck. Asking $50 shipped. If PayPal buyer pays fees or send as gift. I also take Apple Pay too.

I like the staggered intake. Probably a small water drain at the bottom. If you can, stuff the largest filter you can get in there.

Decided to cut the corner off and hopefully fit my washer reservoir there. I'll put some rivnuts along the flange, add some weather stripping and put a piece of plexiglass on top.

Good idea with the drain. The snorkel does suck in a good amount of rain/snow. I plan on ordering a custom afe filter with the guard 7 media. 5" long, 5 1/2" top diameter and 6" base diameter. I think that will be big enough. Going to give them a call though and ask before I order it.

Well my wife has agreed on a turbo build! When she gets a T4R and I take her car as a daily. I have an hour long commute to work so building the truck before having a daily isn’t really an option for me. hopefully within the next year I can start gathering parts. I’ve got a ton more research to do but thanks to everyone here I’ve got tons of knowledge to soak in.

Came across this....old but something Ive been looking for. Seriously debating building this 5vz fully out or swap a V8 but Im highly inclined to think of how cool a 1000hp or so 5vzfe would be. All Toyota OEM minus turbos etc.

The power record as far as I know is 1600 crank HP. This was a dedicated drag car from a race team in Florida. They had a sponcership from TRD and their engines were built for them.
TRD tried to switch them to the 1GR and the blocks would fail between 800-1000 HP. They dropped the sponcership and went to the 2JZ and URD bought all the old 5VZ parts they had. One rotating assembly went into Brian's 4Runner and one was supposed to go in my 4Runner, but Brian sold it off with the rest of the stuff instead.37620d1294454596-attempting-turbo-4runne_6f34627a09af3639dd9894bbc708ee7f29c806a6.jpg
There is a picture of Brian's 4Runner with an estimated crank HP of 1200. Everything in the drive line kept breaking and each part was addressed one at a time. It was depowered and depowered and depowered so it was not so scary to drive. Estimated power level was down to less than 800 and it was run in all wheel drive mode all the time. The last engine management used was Weber RedLine. The death nail of the project was a former TRD engineer/engine builder talked Brian into a reversed cooling system. I knew it was a super bad idea and it would never work, but more URD funds were poured into it and yep it was a big fail. The engine was pulled once again to put the cooling system back to stock and it was never finished. The vehicle was given away and should now be one bad ass SAS off road runner with a 1GR driving it now. The engine and turbo system was parted out and that was that. Was a pretty cool project and very scary to drive. G
