Nice, for the 4bt? Someone near my work has scout with probably a 4bt swap. Thing sounds cool. Has a pretty big turbo in it.

    Nice!!
Yeah should have little to no lag, and after I get it all dialed in it’ll be getting compounded into an hx40 most likely.

Well I got into the teardown of my free spare engine today. Can't complain for the price since I knew it had zero compression in cylinder #1. Just hoping I can do a hone and new forged pistons all around instead of boring it bigger. 3175F4FD-73C1-4BDA-B3EE-6A24C8D7F070.jpg92082389-D98D-4C4D-9E72-EBDE21B991C6.jpg2D38BFE9-5172-43C7-BB76-8CF32EBF8BC8.jpg

Hot dayum! That cylinder was hungry.

Do like NASCAR, and just bore that one cylinder bigger. ;) For the sake of cleaning it up of course. :D

I want to keep stock size on the bearings and pistons, I like the idea of more material being left for extra strength. Also cheaper cost and room for errors down the road.

so the guy I sold my turbo kit texted me and sent me this. He's got a new motor in his tacoma. He blew his other motor with the URD SC and the impeller shaft bent on him so he decided to install the Turbo kit with a new motor he got. He'll be rebuilding the fried motor that came out with the internals I had collected. He's pretty much carrying on my build that I had with my 2nd gen.

Well a little sad, but also rewarding to hear that he is still moving forward and going bigger and stronger!

What's the general consensus on doing aftermarket pistons to drop the compression in the 2.7 for boost? I'm aiming to eventually push about 18-20 lbs, but for the time being it'll be a conservative 8 lbs or so. Is the stock 9:1 ratio safe for the high boost?

9:1 isnt terrible as long as you are changing to forged pistons. Stock clearances are too tight and the stock piston material isnt ductile enough when at high boost.

I think the stock is higher than 9:1 even the old 3RZ was 9.5:1

I may or may not have put another small spring in my wg and brought it up to 10.2 ish... I mean if its gonna run a little trashy it might as well do it in a hurry :burnrubber:havent went wot but 10 psi at 4k pulls pretty good even without tuning those zones haha

Wot just about made me crap my pants... As I approached 10 psi there was a loud pop and a stumble... I assume the untuned areas just decided to send all the fuel, I hope the pop was some of that combusting in The tail pipe and it stumbled due to extreme richness... The laptop is needed now...

LMAO. The first pull did that tuning the new turbo. It was too fat. Afr was richer than 10.0. Then blew a coupler off the next pull to help ease the anxiety of blowing off the head.
