There is also thermodynamic efficiency. How efficient that energy is put into work. Usually this is your ignition timing.

Idle is the hardest to tune. If it idles good I'm happy. Cruise and wot are easier since you are doing work.
Could look at injector duty cycle for fuel economy.

I'm idling very nice and smooth, what I'm not liking is the 71% VE - I can't get it lower. I'm fairly sure it's due to the 85mm throttle body.

Has anyone had any luck with thermal wrapping intake pipes?

Ok so I taped and then cut, absolutely zero marks. I then removed the tape and turned the end, marks. Honestly, it’s going to be covered once installed so pointless really

The 4” is next, considerably more likely to get scratched/marked due to welding

Yes. As well as with powder coating. It will act as a thermal barrier. Especially good once post intercooler. Prevents more heat saturation.

Didn't remove the rest of the protective foam until installed, not a scratch

Still slowly pulling fuel. The blue step line is accelerator position. Lime green is boost. White line is my 02 reading. AFR's really bounce a lot on these old systems. Trying to keep the peaks below 11.5. So I probably average high 10's. My maf is a bit choppy so that probably explains it. Flowing a ton of air though. Switching over to a speed density tune is something I'd like to try. Think I can write a map for it pretty quickly, but I like the maf tune because the truck is very smooth. Truck is happy even though I'm running rich at wot.
Intercooler is working great. Started at 118F and cooled to 108F at 9psi 5k rpm.

It's still too rich for my taste. With dirt truck I figure to run a bit on the rich side in general. What are your wot AFR's commanded to?

Whatever Haltech's stock map is, my EBC is set @14psi and I think it's about 12.2

Thanks, I've read plenty of people tuning for low 12's. I doubt I'll ever run mine that lean unless I have a safer ecu like a haltech.

I'm kinda in the same boat.

That said, do you have a blow thru maf?

Long story short, my draw thru maf (SC) tuned perfectly. As soon as I added the turbo I had issues with weird afr. Compound and just turbo, any turbo boost drives afr into the 10s. I didn't log maf voltage before any boost was added, so a maf clamp is probably in my near future. Truck actually drives great if you drive "thru it". Meaning, if you are going up a slight up hill at 2-3 psi, the afr will go into the 10s, but if you are accelerating at wot afr go no lower than 11.5.
I don't know if our problems are related, but I think a draw thru maf (pre turbo) might eliminate them.

I've always been blow thru. The truck has always done that too with the turbo, but I can and have tuned out that issue by pulling fuel in that specific area of my fuel map. My largest issue is that my maf voltage oscillates a bit aggressive. I even use an air straightener. As a safety precaution I look at my lean peaks. My crazy fuel curve is mostly due to running 2X larger than stock injectors. I'm pulling fuel a bit too conservatively. The truck has been very predictable in tuning whenever I pull fuel. So I have no problem with blow thru. The upper red line is my MAF voltage and the teal line is my corrected maf voltage I send to the ecu. I'm just slowly maxing out the capabilities of this piggyback. Hopefully tomorrow I can do another log on my new leaner tune. It's just nice having the whole fuel map tuned instead of leaving a few holes.

I knew of a guy using the Map-Ecu, that was being limited by the MAF intercept mode. Went to Speed Density, and was able to have more refined control. That was on the 2TR.
