    Not that big of a change. Still want to run the same turbo. I just want a really wide powerband. See how flat of a torque curve I can get.

    Beating a dead horse on the Holsets but there’s a good thread I’ve read several times over on VWVortex. This guy mapped a 2.2l onto an HX40 graph. 95% VE is what he uses. 2164cc to be exact.

    Every gasser running high boost on a Holset has complained of boost creep. Mine loses boost the higher it goes. I have determined that the exhaust gas is pushing the internal WG open in the higher RPMs. Sort of like assisting the actuator. I could crank the actuator tighter but I’d suffer the boost creep by limiting the throw of the gate. So I went old school and did a spring mod. This spring has a “4.75# SWL”. WG set at 32psi wasn’t enough so I added this spring with little to no tension on it. It got me to 28psi and held to 24psi. Exact setup without spring it was 23 and 20psi.

    Good idea. I did the opposite when I ran an eBay turbo. I had a compression spring to bring 9psi to 5.

    Hey not turbo related but you fellas are pretty brighy so I thought id ask. My wife's rav4 (2 azfe) has ~240k on it and it going through oil like a deep fryer. I missed the recall for new pistons which seem to have been the major issue because the return holes were either too few or too small, I have been looking at totaled vehicles because I can get them for ~2x the cost of a rebuild kit, ideally I know it would be easiest to find a 2azfe with the auto trans and just swap everything out but I saw an 18 corolla that has a 1.8 that puts out nearly the same hp and has a cvt... And <200k miles... My question is, if I have the whole car I know that I could swap enough stuff to make it work but how much extra would that actually be? Just motor, trans, mounts and ecu? And if so will will I need a wire harness adapter to make the ecu work without replacing all wiring?

    This revision came together pretty quickly, considering what all was involved, in the free time that I had.

    This next week or so, I'll datalog and go through the tune, and fuel it up. Then I can get at least one video for you guys!

    Why not get a newer-ish used 2az-fe that has been revised, and drop that in? Is that even a possibility?

    The last video I remember seeing your truck in boost was when it was hitting the track. Thing sounded insane. Kinda makes me miss the 1gr

    So the going rate for a rebuilt 1 az seems to be ~1400 plus a core change which if I ordered one would make shipping the old one back a wash so lets just say $1500 there are a ton of cara with auto tranny and 1 az combo (Toyota Lexus scion) and I think I can find one with 150k less miles than currently for at or less than 1 grand and be getting a much newer tranny and motor for less than the price of an engine plus I feel like its just as easy if not more to swap both as 1 unit as it would be to swap in a motor. I hate to drop 1500 on an engine just to have the tranny go in a year or two ya know? But same thought process was if I am going to the trouble why not out in a better motor and tranny if money and labor were basically the same
