@Sleipnir interestingly in the instructions for this turbo it talks about oil pressure requirements. A5CB36D2-AB67-4085-A72F-4DFBDC34692A.jpg

Yea each turbo manufacturer is different on pressure. Mine is 40psi. I bet your sweet spot would be 40 too and just remember that when you're smoking and need an opr like me :D

Absolutely get one of the TurboSmart regulators. I got one straight away on my Holset powered VW and it’s been fine. My oil pressure can get into the 80-90psi range unregulated at high RPM. I’m not sure what the 3rz does but the guy at BenzForce said he will not warrant any turbo that does not have a regulator on it. Just a little FYI insurance for both parties. We contacted TurboSmart-Australia about how they work. Sub 40psi is what it is. Anything over 40psi gets regulated down to 40. It must have a vent hose to relieve the extra pressure as it doesn’t work like an air regulator since it is a fluid.

    @Sleipnir
I routed my vented oil to the farthest corner of the valve cover from the valve cover vent. Drilled a hole and tapped it to whatever AN thread that hose is. It works well. I could see 50-60psi on the gauge spike then the regulator would catch up and it’d drop to 40psi. I want to say it is a ball and seat type regulator but I’d be guessing. It works but you will see a second of pressure spike.

Youll need a rather large oil return hose as well. Mine was a 2 bolt flange but I believe yours is a threaded hole. I’m currently still running a 3/4 flanged connection necked to a 3/4” hose barb. At the turbo the ID of that bottleneck is 12mm and at the sump it is 14mm. 3/4” hose is 19mm but the nipples constrict that so it cancels out.

These cartridges need an oil bath and not be under pressure any. Figure out what thread is in the turbo side and we can help find a suitable nipple with you to get it going. You’re going to need about a 1” or 16AN hose to get a proper ID clearance if you just run a restrictor nipple on the oil feed side.

Couldn't get the pan off today after draining the oil. Stripped a bolt on the timing cover and couldn't get the bolts tucked in above the axles. Also found out I'm missing at least two oil pan bolts right at the bellhousing. Finally figured out that leak.

I'm waiting for a call Tuesday from a speed shop that can Tig weld a bulk head on the pan now. I'll have them replace the stripped and missing bolts and torque the pan to spec. Depending on the price may have them install the opr too.

Aren’t you running twin turbos? You using two OPRs or going to try to use one? Lemme get that Aussie tech email address.

@Sleipnir and anyone else considering one of these handy units. No guesswork for restrictor jets or continuing to burn bypassed oil from over pressuring seals.

My distribution block acts as a T so putting the opr before the block will still distribute 40psi to each of turbo. I already confirmed with Turbosmart

I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. With the suggested tiny 6an lines once you split that 2ways doesn't seem like enough oil volume to feed twins. At least in my head anyway. There's a little thing called frictional pressure loss that I deal with at work. I've never crunched numbers this small but it compounds with smaller IDs.

Already put a gauge on the oil feeds on both turbos and they make 65psi each. The distribution block does nothing to the pressure. My 6an should be more than enough since full race recommends 4 an and 6an for anything over 18"

Weak update on my 3.4 with 35r.

Finally got around to adding a 3" exhaust after the cat. Much more spoolz!

Had a 2.5 with muffler exiting before the axle, now is 3" with resonator before the tank.

Has the .63 housing, going to put the .82 on. Hoping it will be a similar spool to old setup with more top end overall.

I do miss the muffler, so quiet.

I drove about 200 miles yesterday. Didnt get into any crazy boost but the on ramp sounded pretty sexy. My wife also had a bathroom emergency on the way home so there was about 8 miles where we held 90 ish and it was cool to see boost bump in ever so slightly at any incline we came too... Of course I could let any emotion show other than concern for her situation.

If I had all my exhaust leaks fix and my truck running half way right, it would probably be a really sweet set up lol... Oh yeah my truck runs smoother and quieter at 90 than 70... I need to have my tires balance and the drone present at 2100 rpms is gone at 2500 rpms

It's mostly a trail ride truck, so definitely want as much low end as possible. Very rarely is it in the high rpms. But if I can keep the same spool but with more top end, I won't be mad at that.

I lost my USB cable, so I can't hook up the laptop for data/pics. It is definitely running lean in part throttle since there is more boost per rpm. I'm not going to bother tuning it as is, just hoping the larger housing will slow it down a bit, then go from there.

The gf got a few pics from a few weeks ago making a 3rd gear pass. She missed the section where the truck gets off the ground for a second. I'll take pics when I can get them. Truck still running great.
