@Torspd or anyone else whatcha think about these logs? I think the exhaust valve is what's causing my issues. Got another dude with a similar motor and heads having the same issues as me. Do you think the springs are too stiff? Or maybe the VCT solenoid is clogged?

You can see the exhaust valve is pulsing. The pull is a WOT and the intake valves is opening and closing at a rate the power is coming on. The exhaust is pulsing like the cam isn't opening and closing properly. Here's my valve covers under the pcv. The driver I can see plastic and is relatively dry. The passenger is coated in oil which I don't think is supposed to happen.

PCV is clogged perhaps? Possibly due to how things used to be vacuum routed?

Does you log have the ability to show each bank's intake and exhaust VCT operation?

That would be a good place to look.

 

I can log bank two as well so I'll do that now and see what it looks like. There's a dude with a similar motor as mine with the same issues. I've reached out to head games works too

 

What do you think about the oil rings being upside down or not installed correctly? The valves should be pushing air not oil, right? So wouldn’t the last place where oil could be coming from and the white smoke be the piston rings? I am getting a borescope delivered tomorrow to check the cylinders and see if there’s oil

 

do you have the ability to look at commanded vs actual rates for your variable system?

Usually you can tell if you have a lazy or blocked solenoid by how quickly and closely those values follow or deviate from each other. Had the VANOS (same system stupid german name) solenoids on my BMW act up and the deviation was rather large but not large enough to toss a code.

 

I am still thinking there might be some vacuum hose routing issue. I could totally be wrong, but that is where my thoughts keep going.
