Tweaked my tune a tiny bit and didn't make any real headway, just trying to bring some overboost spikes into check upon ignition cut for shifts. I guess the torque punch is neato but it's unnecessary and if I'm corninging and upshift it causes me to kick the rear out. But I had my camera with me while I was doing that and got some good pics of the 135 today.

Found this as well. Some quick research shows that these variants from 13-18 flow about the same On their respective displacement motors. It would be an instant spool off idle but could be able to maintain 6psi at 5000rpm using the airflow rates I observed via my OBD app and the online calculator I posted previously. This is the nearest compressor graph I could find but is not the exact map. The “HL” has a slightly larger turbine. According to this map it would struggle on the top end but my main concern is the bottom end. I believe this map to have a 7cm3 housing and the turbo in question to be either a 7 or 8cm3.

I would need at least a .17m3/s at 1.4PR to achieve 6psi at 5000. Which is maxed out on this graph. But, a .06 is what’s needed at 2100 for 6psi.












@BananaMan If you’re willing to ship I’m willing to give it a try. These have an odd flange but supposedly they can be machined down slightly and turn into a t3.

I've spent the majority of today looking at compressor maps and potential variants of this td04hl-13t. I'm a little schooled up on them now and it won't be big enough for the 3rz. So I will pass on trying to make it work. I found a used he351 locally and have him down to $350 but it looks like it's in rough shape. I'll give him another couple of weeks and he'll likely do the $250 I offered.

The td04hl-13t was barely enough for the 2.3/2.5l Volvos they came off of actually. There are almost as many variations of them as the Holsets have, too. One thing of note is that any application for the td04hl will have an interchangeable hot side. So you can use the CHRA and compressor from the Volvo and the turbine housing from a DSM or where ever to get a larger or smaller A/R and/or different exhaust outlet. They range from 5.5cm3 up to an 8cm3 turbine housing but the same size wheel give or take a few MM. Compressor side is interchangeable with which ever wheel from a td04hl as well up to 20+. The letter designations are like generations of the wheel shapes. So a 13t can flow more across the RPM range than an 18g but the bigger 18g will have just a little more on the top end.

These turbos have their places but the width of useable airflow just isn’t enough for 2.7l. I believe it could handle 15-17psi and up to 5000rpm but the temps would be sky high from the tiny turbine housing. I found some videos of a 3rz with he351 and during a 5th gear lugging pull it was spooled up to 10psi by 2600 or so RPM. Bigger all around turbo but still putting down some low end numbers and latter videos he’s pushing 32psi, I believe. I’ve seen the build thread here on TW before but don’t remember the username. White regular cab 4x4 1st gen.

In my surfing and searching I stumbled across this map. It is for a small Holset that actually interchanges with some of the td04hl hot sides. It just flows an asinine amount more than the Mitzu turbos. This one is capable of 18psi at 5000rpm but it’d be hot.
