    If anyone was curious, this old BMW had no problem making 60lbft more torque than a brand new tuned Supra A90. He had me by 55hp tho

    So for a few months when I got on the pedal I was only seeing maybe 8psi... you know how I’ve been neglecting my truck recently... this is what was left of my gasket

    It’s copper.
    I noticed about a year ago it was squishing out the side a little, thought maybe it was tightened down too much when installed idk? I looked again today haha

    The egg shaped nuts wouldn’t come off, backed the studs right out the turbo- glad I used copper antiseize when I installed them. That one spun right off

    You raise a good point. Probably gonna switch the cartridge and compressor side and leave the stock turbine housing. They make some larger turbos that swap out like that for my car.

    My stock is the left and the larger drop in is the right.

    I reading now, seems if everything isn't perfect (surface,seal,torque) they blow out like this. We'll see how this MLS gasket works out, if it goes too I'll resurface and go with SS MLS.

    There is a crazy amount of back pressure present in the exhaust manifold under boost. I can’t remember where exactly but it was on a 4bt forum when I was researching what I have on my VW. Several forum members have a pressure gauge rigged up on their exhaust manifolds and would monitor that as well as EGTs both pre and post turbo. Seems a little excessive to me but whatever.

    Bottom line is that there will be more back pressure than boost. My particular Holset on a 4bt was logging upwards of 50psi+ while making 30psi of boost. Granted there are several engine variables involved to deviate this but it is there. “For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction.” Can’t have a wind mill powered car running perpetually. Therefore physics says you’ll need more manifold pressure than boost pressure. Some of the big boost guys don’t even run gaskets.
