I used the throttle body coolant lines, as well. You're basically just extending the cooling loop. Hasn't given me any issues so far.

On a side note- new turbo goofin'!
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The original eBay gt2871r was on its way out, so I upgraded to an Arashi gtx3071r. Had one on my STI years ago and loved it. Lots of Subaru guys still use them, and they've got a good reputation.

Installing on Saturday, and excited to see how the 3071r will be compared to the 2871r!

Considered that also but then all the heat when its off is gonna sit in the throttle body.

I understand there are just oil cooled turbos but from my understanding the whole point of the water cooled is to transfer heat out of the turbo to prevent coking after shutdown. Two years ago I melted the plastic T's I had after a long steep climb and shut the truck off to enjoy the view. Replaced those with metal T's but my coolant has turned black and I'm thinking its due to the extreme heat degrading the water lines between the turbo and heater hoses just sitting there when I have the heater valve open.

Doing a flush soon and maybe the darkness came from the melted plastic lines and has just been circulating in there for the last few years. Probably just overthinking it.

Where does it exist the TB? I deleted my feed and don’t recall about the return side.
As for plastic fittings I wouldn’t ever. A return to a jacket in the block would be best but I’d have to do some research on that one.

If you're looking for it on the 2TR, here you go. It's a short in/out loop.

My old 87 4Runner with the 22RTE turbo engine had the cooling system going through the turbo to help keep the center section cooler. And ironically, those turbos had a known problem of cracking the housing.

I appreciate your correct usage of irony... When people are like "it's summer so ironically it's really hot today"... It kinda makes me want to punch them (I just used that as an example but it isn't much of an exaggeration of what actually happens far too often)

Finally been able to make some progress on my own truck after working on everyone else's truck all day long!
I got my crossover pipe done and installed as well as the turbo passenger side manifold, got the turbo just sat on there for mocking purposes so I can start the plumbing and IC mounting. I should have the cold side plumbing done by the end of the weekend. I still have to order some 3" stainless for the downpipe and I am going to expand it to 4" just after it exits the turbo for better flow since I will be running full length exhaust.

Very much so! This truck is gonna be pretty quick. Its already fast with a 5.7L aluminum V8, but we can always go faster!
Super pumped. Now I gotta track down some big ass injectors since I plan on running E85 when running around town along with setting up a dual in-tank fuel pump and larger feed line to feed the horsies.
Gonna be so ridiculous with a truck that looks like it should NOT be that fast, haha!

Currently the 8.4" Toyota rear diff. I guess we shall see how it holds up but they are pretty strong. If I end up breaking that I have an 8.8 that I will put in although I was trying to save that for my Jeep, lol.
I guess I will just have to hunt down another axle assembly and swap them both out eventually.

Got a flex pipe on the crossover? Can't see it from this angle. That down pipe from the turbo looks fun to make. Crazy that the wheel wells are still factory. Power to you squeezing 15 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag.

Ferd 9”. LOL. I remember seeing where a Tundra axle is close to a long travel front end width wise.

Do those have the same 5 bolt pattern as the Tacoma with 5 lugs?

I believe the Tundra axles are the same 6on5.5 as the Tacoma 4x4. Ferd axles are 5 lug but I think 4.5”.

No flex crossover but hopefully the manifolds wont move much, I was thinking about it but Im really having a hard time with packaging. I dont think a flex bellows would fit due to the increased diameter since its literally touching the oil pan gussets that I had already cut back to make space for the old exhaust.
So I'm just hoping there is not much thermal expansion creating A lot of movement, but if there is I will have to address it later.

Yes more like 40lbs in a 5lb bag, everything is fighting for real estate, also realized one of my AC lines off the compressor is toughing the manifold so that's not good, lol. And those wheel wells are likely going to become swiss cheese if I want to get the hot air out of the Turbo hotside, Im going to run a single 4" from the 3" out of the turbo.
