That size of turbo I'd go at least catless or hi flow. Couldn't tell you about the 420 code. My truck is a unicorn. It never threw the rear cat code even going catless.

If it helps for identifying sides, p0420 is passenger side, p0430 is driver side. For the 3GT at least. Sorry if this is obvious info but it wasn't for me lol I assumed it was the other way around until I looked up the piston arrangement

Yeah I went with the URD catless. Ordered the Vibrant J bung adapter with jets, so I'll put the middle jet in like they recommend for catless. Worst case, I have the CatSim. Honestly not too worried, and I'm more excited about hearing the turbo out the exhaust now (Since I have a Magnaflow straight-through exhaust), and not having to deal with a cat. Only issue might be some raspiness, but I can weld in a resonator if needed.

Depends on what they stole it for. Lol if they stole it just to have on hand for their rundown shady looking exhaust shop, they don't give a damn. "Yeah you've got a bad cat, but we can fix it right now for you, not a problem, cheaper than if you go to the dealership for this"

Your post made me me think of the Aero Turbine exhaust brand. Got to take some measurements, but I think this should fit it place of my current straight-through resonator.

On my Bimmer that is. Already have the 3.5" version on my truck.

I think I had mentioned it recently but my Jetta 1.8t that I’ve had for a decade and big turboed it was in a wreck. Insurance called it totaled and I retained it as well as was given $3654.15. So I went on the hunt for something similar, more fun, and could be a long distance work commuter for me in any type of weather.

Lo, did I find something that checked those boxes. A 2003 Audi A4 B6 Avant Quattro with the similar 1.8t but with a few differences. It has a blown head gasket and I got it fairly cheap. Will deck head and put new gaskets in. I have a ko4 turbo that needs new blades and I may or may not toss that on. The cat is likely toast so that’s coming out. May as well do a 3” turbo back to a dual exit muffler cause it’s got duals in the back. All fluids will get changed with some good redline. And new tires. I’m wanting some ATs though. Should be able to handle everything from icy snow to sloppy rain soaked dirt roads as well as some interstate cruising. Side note is that my forged internals from the Jetta will fit.

Now that is something, that the internals will swap over. The VAG keeps giving. Sounds like this car is right up your alley. It'll get new life under your care.

If I had a couple efr7163 that were blown, would anyone be interested in them? Was thinking $300 shipped a piece

Swapped my knockoff HKS BOV for a Tial Q knockoff lol.

What spring are you guys that have it running?

It looks like I'll need the 11psi spring based on the chart of vacuum readings at idle:
    Q_Chart.jpg

In other news, hopefully swapping to the URD Power Pipe tomorrow after work!

Old one was leaking slightly, and there's no adjustment on it. It was a knockoff so I wasn't too upset about it. Plus, when I was removing the vacuum line for it (We did a boost leak test with the BOV eliminated), the fitting came right out the back. It's press-fit so I said screw it I'm going with one that's known not to leak and still has juicy sounds lol.

I ordered a 10psi and 11psi spring for the Tial. I see at idle I usually pull about 20in/Hg of vacuum, so it seemed to line up on their spring chart. Figured might as well get both to be safe.
The 6psi that came with it was staying open at idle, which wasn't affecting anything since it's pre-MAF. But I want it to be right.

Really hoping that my issue is resolved after going catless, because I hate the truck right now lmao. So much extra heat in the exhaust, but no CELs so it's more annoying to not have a pinpoint of exactly what the issue is. But all the symptoms point to cat/muffler so I guess we'll see what happens later.

Have you been able to pull the exhaust and look at the cat yet?
