I'm really starting to think something went through #3 the more I look at the pics. Head looks like something was bounced around in there, piston looked fine. Definitely can see a crack in between intake and exhaust in the pic.

I guess this confirms my issue on start up followed by compression and leak down numbers for those cylinders.

Now if something possibly went through #3 and almost #1, how is the turbine?

And I thought that I was quick with repairs. Dayum. Great question with the turbine.

Have you pulled the housing yet?

I haven't pulled the housing yet, turbo is sitting on the bench.

Going to visit family today, so this will have to wait.

Pulled the housing today, something definitely went through there. Pretty minor though, I think I'll just send it out to check the balance and see if they can work any magic.

On a positive note, I took the hot parts over to get ceramic coated. Will see how they look sometime next week.20210830_130006.jpg 20210830_112530.jpg

I'm baffled. If the cylinder head is recessed 3/16" and the piston is dished about the same, that's alot of space to fill for a bolt/ect. It's weird because there were no marks on the piston and the damage to the turbine is relatively small. I dont know what beat up the cylinder head. @Torspd

Ever pull that piece out of the intake valve?

No, just poked it with my fingernail before putting the head in a box out of the way. Definitely soft, like old grey rtv, which I haven't used on this truck, especially on the intake system.

    It's Alive!

Got lucky I still had the Cai and adapter to 3.5" air filter. Also super lucky where I cut the stock exhaust Y pipe, literally just cleaned it up and the V band fit the cross over pipe.

Started right up. But now there is something wrong with the gas pedal. Truck barely moves. It drives fine but damn is it a dog!

    That is mysterious then.

    :yay:

Man. You got really lucky with that fitment. Or.....you planned it that way in the event of a "just-in-case." Regardless, Bravo man!

Lol I definitely didn't plan that. I needed that though, pretty tight area to work in if it needed tubes fit up, which is what I was planning to actually happen. @Torspd

Only if they Had routed the exhaust under the transmission.

So the JLT oil catch can went in just about 1k miles ago.

Just checked it, was sure it'd be decently full or something with the turbos on board. I really expected to see a lot more oil in there.

Confirmed no visibly obvious oil leaking from the line to the can. Nice to know that I can clearly just empty it out at my 5k oil change interval.

Depends on the setup, as well as the local climate. These humid areas, typically fill it up much more quickly.

They are such a beneficial component to a happy engine.

One of the racers at my last autocross suggested getting the fiberglass bulge rear quarters like the dune bashing guys have. That way I could stuff 300+ under it... I said that's overkill for 160 hp!
