And I thought my core support was bad lol. Your progress is looking good. I've debated just building a whole engine cage and new shock towers when mine is past the point of no return.

I'm trying to avoid that rabbit hole. Maybe if i had more time and money. New towers/cage means dual rate coil overs and longer bypass shocks. It would be stronger and faster, but I'm not racing. I just enjoy the weekend trips to the desert.

So one cylinder has been clearanced for lower compression? That engine was a used engine yes?

What's the consensus on the SC for the 3rz? Is it really as bad as people say to get to work and make any kind of power with?
I've read people doing everything short of a standalone ecu and still have bad issues with pinging.

Was this an option from Toyota? I knew there was one for the 5vz, but didn't know there was a 4 banger option...

Yeah it was, I had one. Its an MP62 just like the 5VZ one but it's utterly underwhelming in every possible way.

I would rather do a turbo obviously, but can't because of smog laws here. There's one for sale for $1k and I'm wondering if it's worth it for a bump in power. Could really use it on some of the big grades over here.
Would be going behind a manual trans which I've heard is more noticeable than an auto.

What was your experience with it?
pink top injectors? low boost? manual/auto?

I'll grant you that it did improve the torque if you're also willing to rev the shit out of your engine as if it was still NA. I had it with Pink tops, LCE header, 6psi pully (mid boost in dumb LCE terms). My truck was manual with 33s and 4.10 gears. I drove just fine, and I had a bit more power (bout dead nuts even with a stock V6), but it could have been better. I probably could have gotten more out of it with a Haltech too, but I wasn't experienced enough to realize that.

Gotcha. That doesn't sound too horrible.
I already rev the shit out of my motor, so I'm no stranger to that.
For that cheaper price tag, it seems worth it to me

How invasive is the smog check? Do they just pop the hood and see if everything looks stock ish? If so, could you have a high res photo blown up and just placed over your engine Bay?

It can vary from station to station on how in depth they are. Kind of a luck of the draw for most unless you know a good one to go to that doesn't go full detective on your setup. Typically on newer cars that look stock, they won't even pop the hood.

I'm currently dealing with the BAR to get a CA approved cat installed, inspected, and approved on my truck in order to pass smog since it's a federal emissions vehicle with only 1 cat.
Been learning a lot about the whole smog system over here and just how dumb and disconnected the whole thing is. No surprise there.

On a parts run earlier and came across this truck. Real Frankenstein of chassis/body but she sure has it where it counts.

Yes, but I also had just replaced all the exhaust valves. I plumbed the relief side of my TurboSmart OPR40 oil regulator to that corner of the valve cover that appears to have dropped a valve. I’m not sure if I botched the retainer install or if the excess oil pooling had some bearing on the carnage.

    Almost done.

    20221019_143844.jpg 20221019_152206.jpg 20221019_135126.jpg 20221020_124531.jpg 20221020_150117.jpg 20221020_160652.jpg

The corners I cut off to make the battery box came in handy for the radiator mounts, head light upper mounts and forward battery mount. Had to trim a little plastic on the lights to clear the tube. Also had to adjust hot charge pipe. Need to mount Ic, Ps cooler and hood pins, maybe adjust intake, then get back out there!
