Progress...? Learned whats nots going to work so that is something..

Flange ending up being 1/2 thick (pictures are so hard to tell and no specs to be had when purchasing other than width between mounting bolts and 1/2 npt threaded).

With the 45 degree npt to barb fitting I got as well it just sat way too low and was too bulky, making contact with the exhaust housing still, although better than my previous pictures but not by much. I proceeded with removing material on the fitting where it made contact and was able to shave enough off to maybe get to ~15 degrees clocked, but I was looking to get 10 or less...kept removing material until I eventually blew through that fitting... even at that point it was still making contact so there was much more to go.

I do have a second npt to barb 45 on its way that looked lower profile than the first but I don't have high hopes. I am going to make my own steel flanges out of 1/4 plate, tap one to use with the next fitting and see what happens as that 1/4 should pull the fitting up and out the way better.

However, I also now have 5/8 steel tubing with 1/2 ID coming and am planning to weld up my own custom deal...its .065 wall so not sure how nicely it will bend. I will probably resort to cutting and welding the angle as well, as I will be able to control how much it comes off the flange more easier that way I think.

Other than that, got the downpipes mocked up and the brake lines from the ABS module moved out the way enough as I could. I am planning to wrap the downpipes to help contain the heat through there protecting all the shit that seems to be on that side, as well as keep the o2 sensor warm enough in the large diameter pipe to hopefully behave...

Anyone else have completely horrible luck with aem gauges? Both afr and boost gauges have gone to shit 2+ times now.

I killed a AEM TruBoost a couple years ago, but wasn't sure if the MAC valve failed or the gauge, sold the car before I could diagnose it.

Progress is progress. I'll take all I can get on the details too since we're working in almost identical engine bays it really helps my brain to visualize.

I dropped off the hot side of my turbo and all the exhaust pieces (obviously excluding the non existent down pipe) for a Cerakote with a heating of 1800°f :bananadead::bananadance:

Also swung by the machine shop to have the 3" male vband flange for the down pipe flattened to match the turbo exhaust outlet

Still waiting on steel for the oil drain... should be here today and hopefully get that behind me...

    Things left:
    • Spark plugs
    • Run oil feed (T is in just need to attach line)
    • Weld up exhaust
    • Fill oil
    • Put front diff back in
    • Change let ball joints... fucked up the boots with pickle fork detaching to get the CVs out. 400 dollar mistake there.
    • Gauges
    • Pcv/ vent/ catch can
    • Water lines to turbo
    • Something else I'm sure I forgot... edited.. told ya

    Exactly.

Going to add another piece that 90s back toward the block. Too harsh of an angle for the tubing, was kinking. But happy with it for sure! Anyone need one of my other 3 flanges I bought? Haha

Looks good, problem solved. Be sure to test it for leaks after welding. Don't want a pin hole. Plug one end and fill it with water for a bit. You could spray some wd40 through it afterwards so it won't rust until it's bathed in oil for the rest of its life.

All mounted and plumbed. Exhaust, diff back in, ball joints and gauges wired up are all that's left before start and test drive!

Related. What's the typical turbo break in process before getting into regular boost driving?

    My plan was:
    • Pre oil turbo
    • Start, let idle till warm for good while, 20 minutes? :notsure: check for leaks during this time
    • Go test drive, read try staying out of boost for first 100-200 miles, but seemed more a suggestion than a rule.
