Only backpressure would be from muffler used. As long as there’s no pin holes light comes through it should be fine. The only sensor close to turbo would be an EGT sensor if you ru one.

Alright, I saw cheap Tacoma and clicked the link. Then I saw engine bay. Somebody on here must need this thing as bad as I want it.

MIG or flux cored? Where was the down-pipe material from? Stainless wire, or non?

Those slip in sections were stretched, so being thinner that the non stretched material. That too could also make it a challenge. Depending on the machine. Just things to think about.

Regardless, you melded them and they will do the job. What you may very well need, is to make a support bracket for the down-pipe to transmission bellhousing. Anywhere efficable. To help brace it from side to side vibrations. It will really help.

Currently running an old 90amp Century machine we got for free. I'm using the BlackHorse Racing pipes and the .35 Blue devil SS flux core wire from Amazon.

I was thinking about using the flange on the end of the catalytic converter closest to the down pipe as a way to add a support bracket I'll definitely look into it further now.

I just finished welding the V bands to the catalytic converter and the end of the down pipe with a reducer.
    IMG_20230707_204456.jpg

I'll have to do some major cleaning on the catalytic converter side, unfortunately the shop that instead the current exhaust welded everything together so I couldn't take it out to work on it and it's been a hassle welding overhead underneath the truck.
Slowly but surely it's coming together. Still need to place the O² sensors and I also haven't ran the power supply for the Boost/AFR guage yet
I haven't figured out how I'll supply the power yet and I'm not sure if I'll mount the guage on the A pillar like I originally planned.

Good progress. You can put the O2 between the firewall/trans tunnel, near starter area. Just be sure to get your angle correct, or else...

Look up a Mini Fuse Tap. I put mine on the radio fuse spot.

I can see most of the welds poking through on the inside of the pipe.

I probably should have been pre heating the metal too but completely spaced it.
I did however preheat last night while burning in the O² bungs. The first one I did was for the Toyota sensor and it welded soo smoothly I felt like I was hitting me stride. Went to weld in the wide band flange and as soon as I finish the second tac weld I ran out of wire. It was a real "Buzzz" kill.
    IMG_20230709_020241.jpg

    IMG_20230709_020635.jpg

It was probably against my better judgment but I decided to slap the other regular harbor freight wire I had on hand back into the machine and finished welding the wide band in, holy cow that was a messy bugger
    IMG_20230709_022836.jpg

The transmission dipstick was a bit of a squeeze but I got it back in there. It's God awful close to the down pipe and the crossover pipe, I'm not sure if the heat will really bother it or not but I plan to put some heat shield around it.

I also got the guage working, I ended up putting a mini fuse tap into the "Guage" slot on the in cabin fuse panel. Also went through the O² calibration procedures.

I still need to make mounting brackets for the IC so I can get the grill back on.

I haven't put the hood back on the make sure everything will clear yet but I'm optimistic about that. The tallest piece in the engine bay is the coolant line closest to the passenger fender (that one gets pretty warm too).

The next issue I need to address is the V band flange welded to the catalytic converter.
Long story short the M/F flanges don't want to mate :rimshot:
I'll probably have to take the dremel tool and carbide bit back under the truck for some delicate metal sliver making.

I took it for another quick test drive after getting the O²'s in and got to hear a little turbo flutter around 5:30 this morning.

So close to being done and im awful tired of hitching a ride to and from work

That HF flux core wire sputtered like the polarity was wrong, compared to the stainless wire. Weird.

I've got to take the down pipe back off and get it to the gunsmith for the ceramic coating now that it's finish. Hopefully he does it as fast as everything else they did for me

That home depot brass fitting I used for the oil supply will need some attention fairly soon, I get a drip of oil about every 5 seconds right now.

I took the Misses out on a little longer test drive this evening. She's happy about how quiet it runs now that it's (mostly) hooked up to the cat back

For some reason the boost guage doesn't read any positive pressure it just stops at exactly 0.00 BAR it seems to be reading vacuum correctly thought and the AFR looks good. The AFR spikes if I let off the gas all the way after a harder pull but that seems normal and is easily avoidable by slowly letting off the gas.

Once I tackle a few of these oil leaks I'll either swap in the next WG spring or add the manual boost controller.

Almost forgot I still need to run some wire to relocate the 2nd horn.

Did you use pipe tape on the npt threads? Also does the larger fitting have a hex on it so you can tighten it separately from the smaller fitting?

Where is the guage tapped into?

Not yet on the pipe thread and I'm sure that will help. It does have a hex head so I can tighten it independently. I have been trying to take it super easy today, my body needed a Sunday's rest.
The guage is tapped into the guage cluster fuse. The mini tap said not to exceed 10amp and the Acc fuse (radio) was 15 I also thought it was fitting to put the guage in the guage port

In the good news department my hood closes.

I like the guage location logic.

I would take it easy with more boost. Just chill and enjoy what you did. If anything, next mod is 3" after the Cat and fixing any leaks.

I got the down pipe to mate up with the cat back today.

Is it normal to see smoke coming through the oil catch can filter?

I definitely won't be adding boost for a while. Especially since the guage isn't reading what I have now

Once I get all the kinks worked out ilI start adding more problems. :curls:

Maybe get a haltech and a daily driver lol
Probably just end up getting arthritis instead

Try testing the boost guage. Disconnect guage signal souce, Turn guage on (not engine), use a small bicycle pump to put a little psi into the sensor or hose. You may need to rig up a 1/8npt to 1/8 barb fitting to connect hose. Don't use compressed shop air because you could easily over pressurize sensor/guage.

If your bike pump guage says 5 psi, and your guage says 0, you know it's the guage or sensor. If bike pump says 5 and guage says 5, then you have a bad engine source or you are not building boost.

Does the vehicle feel like it has more torque? Did you install the wastegate fire ring?

I'm not sure what the wastegate fire ring is..

I will try testing the guage tomorrow and see if I can recreate the problem. Science in action

I tried looking around on Google and it seems others have had the issue where it reads vacuum fine but doesn't give any pressure readings but I never saw the issue resolved
I did see the 4bar map sensor replacements available for $50-$75

The truck definitely has more oompph. I can actually get up to speed on the on ramps for I-15 like I could in a stock 4.0
