Do you use any oil additives like motorkote? I sprinkled some of that in every motor in the yard after watching project farms video, my blender is lucky I didn't try it in there too

Nope, well not in this thing anyway. I use engine restore in the corolla cause its like 480k mi and no maintenance (also no rings haha). But I don't use additives generally unless its an old engine designed for leaded fuel or something.

What "severe spec" 5w30 are you running? I've just been using the regular full syn 5w30 you get a parts store. I'd be interested in trying out something that claims those things. I never really considered running a different oil

Castrol Edge Euro 5W-30 A3/B4 (consider going to 5W-40 tho). It's certified way higher than the general API SN or SJ certs. It meets the BMW LL01, Audi, and MB specs too which are pretty rigorous. Castrol claims it's much more temperature and pressure stable and has even helped in reducing predetonation. Of course there's a big difference between a 9.5:1 compression 5VZ chewing on 10psi and a 11:1 compression BMW N55 being fed 18psi, but that should lead to it being over qualified for the job and it's still quite affordable as oils go.

May swap to that Castrol in my Audi then. Aiming for about 25psi. Did a first start recently on refreshed motor and head. I used M1 5w-30 cause that’s what I had on hand. Need to get clutch rod length sorted for the clutch setup I chose and get tune sorted so I can seat new rings on fresh cross hatch under load then I’ll swap oils.

Ha never even knew castrol edge euro existed. I've been using Pennzoil, but sometimes it's hard to find. Will make finding oil for the Subi and Taco easier.

Think a rat or something chewed a wire on my EBCS last night in the car. CEL went off this morning, but I haven't had time to check under the hood. The morning commute sure was boring with having only wastegate pressure.

Hoping to crawl under the car tonight to see if I can fix it. Depends on the rain. Little shits chewed up the headlight wires a few years ago.

Is there an argument for a heavier flywheel on a turbo engine to build boost faster?

If your setup is so laggy that that would ever make a difference then there's more of an argument for a standalone and rolling antilag instead

Antilag sounds more fun. Im leaning more towards a lightweight unit but I’m not sure yet. I want the lce dual comp clutch and I was thinking the heavy flywheel may make the clutch feel better for a daily driver. My truck 99% daily driver with a few sand dune trips a year. Is lighter better?

Lighter revs up/down faster. The old John Deere tractors had large heavy flywheels on the side to help keep the engine running when bogging down under load. Heavier truck flywheel will make the revs hang longer but also more easier to drive. If you’re laggy a smaller turbo would be ideal. If it’s a twin scroll then look into possibly getting a quick spool vac operated flapper.

Put in some work last two mornings to get this thing back rolling. Took it around my neighborhood without headlights or exhaust and it did solid. Definitely can note a difference between stock dual mass to lighter single mass flywheels. No tune of yet but being a factory boosted car it hit limp mode quickly.

Need to trim bumper and crash bar a little more to allow some clearance for intercooler and it has a coolant alarm even though it has coolant and is circulating.

Lemme get my garage straightened up enough I can powder coat the piping matte black and it’ll help. Won’t help that I’m thinking of 3” to dual 2.5” straight through or possibly chambered. But honestly, I’m taking a 21yo car and bringing it up to modern performance. Sadly it should run with, hopefully nose out, all the big sedans nowadays.
