I heard the first gobbles of the season! I go out side and out in the field below our house was about 12 toms fighting, gobbling etc..funny to watch. I couldnt find our camcorder to record the insanity but maybe they will come back later.

I wont say its my favorite but...in spring we have two choices...bear or turkey so this is fun too! The furthest Ive had one come in was 500+yds away.

Theres a couple groups like that not far from me, I counted 24+ in one and 40+ in another. around our place there was a group of 7 toms and 5 hens split up that were around most of the winter, then today I heard another group of toms meet up with the 7. Thats when the fight started...they took off downhill somewhere but maybe they'll be back.

I saw a turkey run through my yard Tuesday. I've never been turkey hunting, season isn't for anther 3 weeks here, but it looks hard as hell. Those turkeys are fast.

closest you've ever had a turkey in was 500 yards? or bear?

Either way, yea its a rush just talking to them. having one sound off like 20 yards away when its been dead silent all morning?! man, thatll give you the shakes! Horny little thunder chickens!

when they are running yes...but the trick is to lure them in with hen calls, when they strut in its fun to watch...all puffed out.

I called a turkey in from that far away...it came up to about 7yds away but by that time I didnt have the heart to shoot that particular tom. Plus we didnt have a shotgun with us so it was just a fun experience!

I might have to try this sometime. Plus I'd probably get to wear camouflage.

oh they are sharp eyed, sometimes they see the slightest movement and are gone in flash...usually running away vs flying.

Same here and I'm not far from the Smokies. I've heard of bears being in town from time to time. As much as I hear people talk about bears in the Smokies, I'm disappointed that in all my trips I've never seen one.
