Not yet . I forgot how much work this was . First spring hunting since 2004 . My back and feet are killing me Deer hunting is a piece of cake compared to this . Then to top it off there are 7 toms everyday across the road outside my window where I don’t have permission.

You telling me you manage to get 12 hours of sleep during turkey season. Hell I stay in a sleep deficit this time of year.

 

It was 9 hours and 23 minutes Even though I’m retired I’m not hunting everyday . Don’t want to burn out or push the birds too hard . Quite a few people hunting them ,you never know if you will bump into somebody . Guy yelled at me the other day across the road ,”you don’t belong here “ . I said to him “about 5 other people that don’t belong here too” fuck him I will be back

 

Today is the first day I don’t don’t see all those Toms in the field across the road . Maybe most hens are bred and the long beards are on the move

why dont people mind their own business? You should have yelled back do you want any turkey? I got 5 down! LOL

 

Some of y'all can probaley relate to some of these, or maybe you can't.

In no particular order.

1. Whatever side of a creek you roost a bird on he's guaranteed to fly down on the opposite side that your setup on, regardless of where he flew down yesterday.

2. Never believe a fellow turkey hunter that tells you he knows where a strut zone is located at.

3. Krystals doesn't serve breakfast at 4 in the morning, only burgers.

4. Coyotes are atttacted to turkey decoys more than the turkeys are.

5. When running a box call its guaranteed you'll fall asleep at some point and drop the call alerting every turkey in earshot, usually NLT 9:00 am.

6. Its possible to live on nothing but Pepsi, Slim Jims, and Cliff Bars for weeks at a time.

7. Backpacks are superior to a vest, anyone whos tried crawling on a turkey understands this.

8. When taking time off of work to spring turkey hunt its a sure bet it will be cold and rainy that day, the day you return to work will be warm and sunny.

9. After working the same bird for 5 straight mornings and knowing this is the morning...its probaley not. After 5 days you should already know this since you thought the same thing on day 2, 3, and 4.

10. When hunting the same bird for a week straight and thinking you finally have him patterned...you don't.

 

Oh no ,this guy walked right in on me like 30 yards . Then came up to me after I waved .I know the guy ,he used to live 4 doors down from me . I guess him and 3or 4 other guys have permission.He came right up to me and said what are you doing here . I said well it’s Monday and didn’t think anyone would be here I was only ever told one guy hunts there . It’s right across from my house . There is about a thousand acres over there but everyone hunts around the fields . I never ran into anyone years ago because I hunted up top where the lazy fuckers don’t go . I was probably 20 yards into the woods off the field that does NOT belong to the farm . Ill go back if I hear or see birds again .but this time no one will know In the mean time hopefully the birds behind my house are still there . One of them across the road is a monster trophy bird !

Bagged this guy two Wednesday’s ago. About to hit the woods again tomorrow and try to close out my tags for the spring. I will follow up with the beard and fan mount this weekend. 10” beard, 1.25” spurs

Let me know your favorite ways to prep or process wild turkey meat! Personally I turn it all into ground meat and mix with hickory bacon for fat content.

 

That would have ruined my day since one of the reasons I hunt is to get away from people.

I have been hunting turkeys on this piece for 3 years and I finally bagged one. The past two years my future father-in-law has had all the luck. He killed a 13inch and a triple beard. Might post some pictures of it.

 

Just checked acrevalue.com . Over 400 acre of fields and 1000 acres of woods across from my house .

 

And the Audubon Society owns 800-1100 acres that adjoins this property.

 

I just cooked the jake i got this season. I brined the breast strips for 2 hours then fried in cornmeal Everglades seasoning mixture. Was good

 

Cool that you've got land that close to hunt on. I've got 182,000 acres of federal land I hunt on but its 30 minutes away. Not bitchen though since I know there are guys that have to drive several hours to hunt.
