Turkey hunting and BS welcome!

The birds here will gobble off the roost and few to assemble then go silent till noonish. We shoot 80% of our birds after 12:00. I only get up early to confirm that birds are using the area.

 

My first day out this year I forgot to grab my turkey reed. Still had my elk reeds from last year and used them. I was not successful lol That was the only morning I heard an gobble though. Been quite since.

I find the second and third week are better . The Toms get lonely while the hens tend to their nests.

 

I was surprised to see a broken egg shell on a trail last week. So some of the hens are on nests.

 

Just makes it more of a challenge. All part of the game.

Washington, but this egg was broken by a predator my guess is a racoon. They get a lot of eggs around here.

 

No hunt spring turkey after 12 in NY .

 

I have always found that to be a strange law that isn't necessarily based in science. I have read a lot about it and no one can really say if it helps hens nesting success or not. I think now it's more about tradition which I'm fine with but I still don't understand.

 

Antequated law, some states you cant hunt on Sundays either.

 

From what I’ve heard it’s just so hunters don’t push the hens off nests . I think the hens basically feed in the morning and lay on eggs the rest of the day

Never heard a turkey today . Only went out about 2 hours between the rain . I did see some from the Taco .

 

We have the best of both worlds here in Massachusetts; can’t hunt pass noon during spring turkey season AND can’t hunt on Sundays. Ever.
