Turkey hunting and BS welcome!

So people that work a standard 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday job can only hunt one day a week. That is beyond ridiculous.

 

Along with all the other people that can only hunt one day a week sounds tough. Just for my own curiosity do they allow you to fish on Sundays? If so how is that any different ?

I grew up in Pennsylvania and that's how it was. I've heard that it was too give non hunters the use of public land for a day and to avoid conflicts. Still doesn't excuse a reason for private lands though.

 

Ghosted today . Bird on the roost within 75 yards . Gobbled at least 50 times . Thought he would fly down on logging road in front of me . Instead flew to the logging road at the same level as his roost above me . Called him back within about 50-60 yards but never saw him over the rise .Made a move half way up that rise when it sounded like he was going away .Got him gobbling again but just couldn’t tell where he actually was . Then he shut up . Sooooo much road noise also . Blue dot is my house ,red is where I was set up . Notice the road .Thought I would catch him headed to field but no bird in field when I came out .

 

Man that's a tough morning, they never seem to wanna follow our script. Good luck on your next hunt.

 

Then they pop out on you unexpectedly

 

I had one several seasons ago that I chased for three days straight, every morning he flew down in a different direction and disappeared in the woods.

 

Yes you can hunt Sunday. I believe it was always said no hunting Sunday so everyone else can enjoy the outdoors as well. Doesn’t make sense

 

Yup . The last 4 birds I whacked I only called once then sat silent for at least 30-45 minutes and out of nowhere gobble right in front of me . I always try and put a small rise or just a bump in the land between me and the bird . That way he has to come over the rise to look then bang he’s already in my sights

 

Unpredictable bastards
Supposed to rain pretty steady tomorrow morning. I can sleep in or try and sneak right up closer to the roost in the rain .

 

They said t-storms here but nothing but big wind and some clouds

 

Had a hen in back yard scratching in some dirt. Hope to see more. Game cam so far has seen more than me

 

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow my first time hunting with my oldest son in 16 years and it is supposed to be the first warm day this year (70) .

Back At you!

 

Had 5 this morning gobbling in the rain .2 within 30 yards behind me and 3 about 100 yards in front .They never gobbled at my owl hooter this morning so I set up in the vicinity of where they gobbled last night . Had the 3 circle in front of me on the other side of a stand of hemlock down over an edge . Couldn’t see them but they were close .Then they went behind me within 20-30 yards at my 5 o’clock but a bunch of deer checking out my decoy spooked them . Back out by 630 having coffee now . Head back in again later . If only I was on the other side of the tree
