I bought my truck as an every day driver but primarily for its off road ability and reputation for reliability. I traded in a twelve year old Tundra for it because I had just retired and needed something that would last me a long time, I could use every day, and hunt/fish/camp with. This may be the last truck I ever buy. I doubt I could’ve made a better choice.

Something someone else posted this morning got me thinking. I love my truck and couldn’t be happier with it, but if I’d found this site prior to purchasing it I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have bought it. That would’ve been a real shame because these are great trucks and can bring their owners a lot of joy. I know mine does to me.

    Range day yesterday:

Looks as good as it drives - both on and off-road.

When I was coming back from Moab, I stopped at a grocery store. As I was getting out, a guy that had been pulling into a spot behind the shopping cart enclosure drove right into it, denting his truck and the enclosure in the process. He got out laughing and told me he had been paying more attention to my truck than to his driving.

Seems like I can’t go anywhere without someone complementing me on the truck but they sure do get trashed here. A site ostensibly for fans. Weird. . .

I usually just think it's a bunch of Ford, Chevy and Dodge salespeople that signed up here to try and get some foot traffic in their showroom.

I like yours and love mine too.

I came from a first gen tundra that I had had for around 12 years and at first I didn't like how it shifted. Got OVtune and have been happy with the truck ever since, 2 years and 40k miles and counting.

I spend a lot of time bowhunting out of my truck. Crammed full with treestand, bow, boots, clothes...during midday I eat in it, sleep in it, whatever. I couldn't ask for a better one.
Sometimes you need to get off the internet and just enjoy what you have. I'm totally happy with mine.

My wife drives the truck most days. She has caught dudes walking around the truck then they start asking her questions about it when she walks up. Also gets a fair amount of astonished looks on the highway when people see a young Asian chick driving a bro'd out Tacoma. Everyone at work wants to check out her truck. Now she's into getting mods.

You can't judge a product by the enthusiast forums. If that was the case, all of us would be deep into buyers remorse and the 95% of folks who never really venture into them before a purchase would be fat, dumb, and happy in our stuff.

These places are for problem solving, shitposting, and gathering together. TW is just unusually active.

I wouldn't trade my taco for anything and can't wait to finish all my mods. I do believe that THIS site would help more people be a lot more informed "good & bad" before making a purchase though. Forums are like anything in life these days...Really helpful if you can sort through all the other nonsense and #fakenews.

I’m not so sure about that. I for one am really happy I didn’t know about this forum because I would've come away with the predisposition that the truck was a piece of shit. If I had come here first, I would’ve been convinced they all had transmission problems and not bothered to test drive one at all.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree...one can never have too much information, in my humble opinion. I wish I had come here first. Wouldn't have kept me from buying the truck by any means. You just has to smart enough to sort it out from multiple sources and come to your own conclusion. I have learned a shit ton off this forum information wise about my Tacoma. I for one would NEVER make a life decision of anything based of a bunch of people on the internet but I will use their experiences / info and do research myself along with that. So if you would solely be swayed by the folks on Tacoma World....Well, then I understand your reluctance. lol.

    Agreed.

I had a 2014 Forester before my Taco that I had purchased without having visited the Forester forum. All the professional reviews at that time were praising the vehicle... best in class, top pick, etc. Found out shortly after joining that forum that the FB25 engines were notorious oil burners, especially with the manual transmission setup (which I bought). Sure enough, that engine proved to be a major headache for me, and I regret that car purchase. So yeah, forums can be very useful for research.

That said, you have to learn to separate the quirky/annoyance issues (i.e. A/C whistle, diff howl, decel vibration, etc. for the Taco) from the serious issues (i.e. fuel pump failures). Overall, these are great trucks with few, if any real serious widespread issues.

    This is refreshing

2 yrs with this truck and could not be happier with the purchase. Solid truck. Best looking truck in its class.

I bought it based on looks and off-road fantasies I'll never realize.
