Awesome to hear, that is MUCH easier to repair and shouldn't be an issue for Toyota to get taken care of.

Damn, i ALMOST suggested that it could be that.

A dealership should be able to do it. About 500 bucks for both with labor if they have the parts.

A grappler tool is what he needs not a press for them.

I'll keep tabs on this thread. If worst comes to worst I can try to find a tow dolly and run down there to tow him and his trailer to Reno with my Tundra. Should be able to tow the combo with zero problems. Only thing I'd need to know is his outside-outside tire width for sizing up the dolly.

How is Clark making out? I live in Big Pine which is 15 miles south of Bishop. Not sure what I can do to help, but I am willing.
I'm a little surpised the local Toyota dealer, Perry Motors, didn't call back...

I talked to him about an hour ago and it sounds like he's headed to the dealer to see abut replacing the wheel bearing.

LOL That's way different than a bad diff. Thank God! He can really continue his journey as planned and fix it at home haha

not if it is that bad. I had a bearing fail on a trip. was super screwed without a tow rig. thankfully i have amazing friends. When we pulled it it was no less short of a miracle i had made it as far as i did.

I have a buddy in Gardnerville in NV. that could help if need be. He's got a whole shop with presses and lifts. Let me know. Only 155mi from Bishop.

Damn, was just through there. Judging by my trips through Bishop, I wouldn't want to be stuck there with a complicated vehicle repair. I'm glad hearing it's just a wheel bearing. But still sounds Shitty.

    On all first gens?
I just drove close to 400 mi back home when my cv exploded on the birfield stub, inside my hub (manual hub conversion). Be interesting to know why I'd have to torque that bearing lock ring to 230 ft/lbs if it would fly apart w/o the cv attached?

No not all. Yours for instance.

You have manual hubs. The spindle/hub is totally different. ADD axles/hubs require the CV be in place to hole the wheel bearing in place.

Ah okay. Good to know. So a broken cv and a add truck isn't going anywhere?
That's Shitty for the ADD trucks.

Well at least theyre stronger and don't explode like mine did and take everything with it..

Yea that is why carrying a trail spare(or two) on an ADD truck is important and really sucks when the diff goes.

They are stronger..but can still break haha

He got the wheel bearing replaced and sent me a pic of him in Mammoth at some hotsprings. I haven't heard from him since yesterday.
