    Figured I'd post it.

I've seen people asking how to get 1 in there, I'm gonna do two.

Now to figure out how to get my third 14' in there.

I may need a trailer. Or at least a hitch mounted extender.

I’d go with a hitch mount extender thingey. Looks like you might get 3 of them in sideways/virtually, Then put the extender full height to take up the curve of the kayaks (So the tails are high) and it’ll help keep the from falling out the back / less tiedowns.

For those thinking of purchasing a kayak, consider a 10 footer. This fit well and does not extend too far beyond the lowered tailgate.

The kayak, Pelican Catch 100, is fully outfitted (seat, paddle, cart, life vest, and misc) and tied down across the bow (hard to see) and across the beam through the carry handles. The cart is strapped in separately, but nice and secure for driving. I drove this way for 2 hours each way today. The tonneau cover closes without any interference. The length sticking out the end of the bed is long enough that I have a red flag for long load compliance. The seat is bungeed in a folded position. I have bed D-rings, both forward and back for attachment points. The Tacoma was one of the primary reasons I traded my 2007 FJ Cruiser. I couldn't lift it on the roof anymore, and at 73 I'm not getting any younger.

10 footers are too short for the ocean. I've been using a short bed Tundra but every time I take it down to the water I fear getting hit. Fortunately I don't have far to go. Tundra is going away and I have a new short bet Tacoma. Going to go with the hitch thingy and see how it works (they don't cost that much). Still worry about it getting hit. Honestly probably going to do some sort of elevated rack at some point.

This was my thought, i was going to do this but the soft topper braces were going to gouge the hulls pretty good. I'll need to remove the topper braces or find a way to keep them from touching.

I really like my 12s, my 14 is my river kayak, sit in, been using it since i was a teenager. It's super stable, no water in the hull, great in the winter when you don't want to be wet, super light weight.

I said to myself yesterday that i wish i had front d rings. What did you use to add d rings to the front bolts?

I want one for sure, but the only one i could load there by myself would be my 14. It's 48lbs empty.

The lower kayak in the pic is 100lbs and the top one is 78lbs.

That would be tough to load by myself, I'm little 140lbs 5'11"

If my kayaks were lighter i could do it.

2 narrow beam 15', but it is a long bed with an extender.

10' is too short for paddling any distance or fighting wind on open water. Wears you out.

Not worried about getting hit. I flag and/or light as required. (not flagged in pic)

I set mine up over the wheel wells so I have the full bed width.

I've found a roof rack keeps them sturdier for transport. When they stick out the back they tend to bounce and stress more. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Well we took them out and back today.

Definitely bounced a bit but not as bad as i would have thought.

    2 issues:

The stress on the lower one, at minimum i need a bed extender.

The back of my new one (the pedal yak on top) was digging into the bed rail and put a decent gouge. A few more trips like that and I'll have a hole for sure.

I like the 2x6 over the wheel wells and then the extender, i think i could swing that better. Especially with 2 more d rings

Bed extender works well for me for 1 kayak, sometimes 2, if I need anymore I take the trailerfullsizeoutput_47f.jpg

I just made a 2x4 rack, and painted it black. Then later with 2 different kayaks I made v blocks because these 2 have 'rocker' and You can't tie a boat with rocked down hard in the middle because it will buckle . I have more photos if this happens to float yer stickIMG_2467web.jpg

This is how i have always tied them, but my soft topper brackets get in the way.

My blue kayak set me back 1800 so i don't want to put a hole in it just yet
