My truck got christened on the Hwy 8 bridge over the Grand river at lunch time today. A transport truck lost his brakes heading down the hill and slammed into the back of the blue 2009 Tacoma that was behind me. I saw it happen in my rear view and checked the distance between me and the car in front and it was only about 2 car lengths so I couldn't floor it.

We were in a traffic jam doing about 10 - 15 Km due to the bridge construction and narrow lanes so I was cruising along in second gear.

I glanced in the rear view again after the blue truck rear ended me and saw that he was gone. Now I had the transport on my ass and he wasn't stopping so I had to stay on the gas until I was sure he was stopped.
That took about 200 feet from where the other Tacoma ended up.

The other truck is a total writeoff but the 2 guys in it weren't injured. One guy had a sore neck but both said the air bags never touched them. I guess they were thrown back in their seats by another shove from the transport after they hit me.

My truck bumper, tailgate, trailer hitch and right side tail light got banged up pretty good and the box got moved forward on the right side far enough to hit the cab before it bounced back. It's sitting crooked and the sheet metal is rippled over the right rear wheel well.

I really like my truck. If it turns out that the frame is bent, is there any way to fix it without affecting the resale value if I ever decide to sell it?

    Thanks
    Doug

PS; I got the truck washed after the accident and I will be posting pictures.

Good that no one was hurt. Sounds like the trucks company will be paying.

But the 2 Kitchener part lol, I was thinking "what are 2 tacos doin in a kitchen?"

I wouldn't answer that... it may work against you if the transport company wants to settle under a privacy settlement. That will usually end up in more money for you and your new NEW truck. ;)

Sucks about the Taco, but at least you're alright. I was suprised to see the name Kitchener. I went there a couple of times when there was a BFGoodrich Plant there.

Well I've been here since 1984 and I've seen lots of changes. Try to avoid Hwy 8 between Kitchener and the 401 if you decide to visit. The OPP officer I talked to told me it was the 3rd accident that day on the same stretch of highway.

glad you ok dude. you got a nice truck too bad that happened. but im surprised thats all it did to your rear end if that other taco was a write off? shouldnt be too bad if the frame isnt bent. i was with a friend when we went off the road and hit a tree. when we went down over the ditch the front drivers tire hit a water drainage coulvert and bent the frame (98 trail balzer). would have been a write off but he worked at a collision center and they straightened the frame for him after hours, so if it is bent you could possibly get it fixed if its not too bad.

Glad to hear that you are all right. I was rear ended in May and my back is still sore from it. Make sure that if anything hurts you see the Dr immediately.

I call dibs on the rear tail lights!!

It all depends on how bad the frame is bent. Its pretty common to straighten a frame on a rack. BTW I'd like to see more pics of that 4eye in your album, I have a '86 vert.

What a bummer man. Hope the best for ya. You should always try for a new truck... even though its hard. Your truck will lose alotof reasale value from the accident.
