I understand all that. I’m just wondering in day to day driving if it’s that noticeable seeing how little travel is actually used when driving around town. I’ve only ever driven/ridden in something with Icons so I’m curious as to how different it actually is.

You ever get rid of those rear icons or you still running them?

Still there. No reason to buy a set of ADS smooth bodies just to replace them with coilovers later.

4x4 double cab pretty much. Limited preferred, but I’d look at any well priced

I think icon gets the most shit, but it’s still good suspension. I’ll see how ADS is if some of my plans come to fruition

Sitting in my room on the clock, my remote desktop connection keeps failing. I think someone turned my machine off. So, I guess I'll just sit here on TW until then :playball:

Alright so without researching in depth, and seeing the convo above, what's the hierarchy of suspension for the 4th gens? Let's say, hypothetically of course, your're going for something that's not high-end or on the expensive side of things, but that will last a long while and that isn't as basic as it comes. Suspension that can handle 50 MPH fire roads but also low range crawling (more so this). What's wrong with the ICON setup? I haven't heard much bad about it but from reading above it has me hesitant

Tons of people have Icon and love them, but I’ve also seen a ton of people have blown or leaking shocks within the first 10-15k, which is ridiculous for the amount of money you’re paying for icons. It does happen to all manufactures but seems like a higher rate for Icon.

Also they are the only digressive shock which means it’s stiffer at slow speeds (crawling and on the streets but gets softer at high speeds) makes for less of a comfortable ride for a DD. Also Icon internals are considered questions material wise by some credible sources on TW.

King is king around TW and considered the best all around. A lot of NorCal guys have made the icon to king switch and noticed a difference. ADS is also right up there so you can’t go wrong with either. Fox is great but has rust issues on their housing.

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated.

Too bad about Icon. I'm sure they would work well in most situations but the part in which they're stiff at low speeds is definitely concerning to me considering most of my wheeling is <10 MPH.

Kings seem reasonably priced. Looks like there's no 4th-gen specific setup though so it's FJ suspension instead but it works as if it were for the 4th gen?

Never heard of ADS until now, smaller company than the others?

I also have no concept of if I'd need bypass, coilovers, etc.

I’ve had no problems with mine. And if I didn’t find Kings for $200, I’d keep running them. I’ll admit the ride is a little rough crawling but shit, pretty much anything is going to be when you’re doing that.

I don’t really expect to see much of a difference in ride quality but will be pleasantly surprised if I did.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d get Kings off the back based on what others say about internal tolerances but I’m by no means disappointed with the money I spend on my icons.

    33s at 14 are small clouds. I feel a lot:bananadead:

Been thinking I want 35s but don’t want to give up the MPGs and I don’t really wheel enough to justify it

Haha just saw the thread, that’s a friend of mine. He’s a good guy just always looking for a deal. I hate it though when sellers agree to a price then say someone else can pay more and jacks it up. Glad cash already was paid.

Not my problem he slept on it. I was just lucky enough to see it earlier. He should’ve gotten in line like the rest instead of trying to undercut everyone, regardless of how good the deal was. Tell him I’ll rebuild them and gladly sell them to him for a much inflated price if he really wants them.

Had the guys PayPal email. He told me to wait until he had the Kings in the mail. But once that guy posted, I sent money within 5 minutes. I’d pay $250+Shipping but the OP charged me $220 shipped. So I paid the $220 before there was a chance for the OP to change his mind.
