Thanks. Just wish my single cab looked as badass as yours. I just read your 2jz build. I'm super jealous

Well guys...looks like there has been a slight twist...

About to finalize a deal on a 5 speed manual with J-case transfer case, inchworm crawl box, RAD designs triple stick, and several other parts needed for the 4x4 conversion.

Always dreamed of having a crawl box. Never knew I would actually be getting a dual case transmission setup!!!

I promised myself that before I go too far into this, I am going to get the 2jz-Tacoma roadworthy first.

UPDATE! Okay- so everything is shipping out today to me.

Going through all the thoughts here with a fine toothed comb-
    I still NEED:

front diff of course (which I will for sure have built by ECGS).

Flywheel and clutch. I don't know much about manual transmissions, but Marlin Crawler's 1,200lb clutch setup looks to be the ticket.

**Not sure if there is anything specific I need with flywheels. I can get one from Marlin too or just find a used stock flywheel? I just want something that works. Don't need any kind of aluminum fancy quick wearing one.

    Transfer case bracket/mount.

Clutch pedal. On ebay it looks like I need to get both the clutch and brake pedal assembly for the conversion.

Last thing I'd have to do is have front driveshaft lengthened and rear shortened.
I know I can technically get rolling with my auto ecu and harness with jumping a wire or two which is fine for now.

When I did my clutch i used a parts store flywheel with no issues. I would also do a price comparison of stock OEM clutch parts vs Marlins also check your kit for Chinese parts from them. They supplied a chinese pilot bearing that I didnt catch that totally seized up on me in 3yrs of low mileage driving. So a 12 dollar part almost cost me a $700 input shaft and trans teardown, it did cost me a weekend dropping the trans and changing out that bearing for an OEM one. In fairness evreything else looked good in there clutch wise and I reused everything. Check my build thread for pics if you want.

I have the 1200lb kit and while it's nice, I would just source evreything OEM for the next clutch job this truck needs.

You will love duals, hands down the best mod you can do!

I'll definitely check out your build thread. Holy moly about the bearing!! Super good to know. I'm not doing all this work just to have one weak POS link in the system. I'll price check OEM stuff and go from there. Super good info man and potentially saved me a mess because I absolutely rip hard on my little truck! Really appreciate the feedback.

Yea no problem, that's what forums are all about shareing info!! I use toyotapartsdeal.com for oem parts, I have had good luck with them and the prices are good.

I also have some crawler tips buried in there, I built my 1st one in 08 and it blew up almost a year later due to some installation stupidity, but has been kicking ass since the rebuild. Shoot me a message before you start putting evreything together and I'll share what info I got/can remember.

Looks like all this stuff should be arriving next week! Been collecting the odds and ends like clutch/brake pedal assembly with all the associated parts, bolts for mounting differential, the differential itself. Just need the transmission clutch kit and transfer case bracket.

After that, throw it all in over a couple days and get the driveshafts cut!

    Update!

So I just ordered the Marlin Crawler clutch kit, but also order a Timken pilot bearing (which seems to be the weak link in the Marlin kit as mentioned above).

Also felt the Trail Gear dual case cross member is extremely convenient for my use so I ordered that. It got kinda pricey real quick specifically because of that, but it is such an important part to me and how I use my truck.

    Got a Luk flywheel too.

I know the main transmission cross-member will be just past my OEM one. I plan to simply weld the two together.

Got the complete brake/clutch assembly from a 97' as well as the master cylinder and booster from the same year due to fitment. I know I can sell a lot of my old stuff so I am not too concerned about that.

I am sure I'll need some nuts and bolts for the flywhee/clutch, but I think I have juuust about everything at this point!!!! Just need to wait for it to all arrive.

Planning on doing this in stages-
Put all the transmission stuff together first.
Put all the front end stuff together on the truck.
Finally, install the transmission and get the driveshafts cut.

Learn how to *properly* drive a manual in the drive shaft shop parking lot. I mean... hey, it can't be that hard to stall in 2wd double low, can it?

You are teaching yourself to drive stick on this post swap?? Awesome!

I got new OEM flywheel bolts when I did mine because I believe they are single use.

I'll definitely order some up to be safe. And yeah... I have driven a couple cars around the block that I've worked on just to see what it's like and I LOVE the direct connection feeling, just like on the dirt bike.

Arrived at my work yesterday (a lot cheaper with freight if I have shipped to a dock). Inchworm box should arrive tomorrow hopefully. I feel bad for our UPS lady- Half of her entire truck is probably full of steel cross-members, differentials, and transmission parts hahah.

Oh...I forgot to tell you all... I got the sweet Tundra Brake upgrade kit from Amazon.
    71pfuMkdWzL._AC_SL1200_.jpg

The rim I just ordered is from Trail Ready. I ordered one for test fitment right now. Chose to NOT have them drilled for beadlock, yet, but they can be converted if I want to later on if I want to commit to that route.

I did 17" because of the brakes, they're 8.5 wide, and I chose the 3.0 backspacing so I can hopefully eliminate my spacers. At work I get really good deals on Toyos, so I will most likely get some 37" Toyo Mud Terrains to pair with this new setup.

I nabbed this photo off another forum from someone selling these a while back, but this is essentially what the exact setup would look like for reference.

I loved my trail ready beadlocks, too bad they were 15s and I had to get rid of them. You wont be dissapointed!

Guys!! All I can say is holy moly! I was skeptical about the design of the Trail Gear crossmember... But WOW! This thing is MASSIVE! It must weigh nearly as much as me hahahah! Needless to say, I feel much better about it now. That will help a LOT with the install.

Thank you Greg! Ironically, the seller included this bearing and mentioned to me about it (I think it handles the load a bit better to on top of the added RPM I believe- I could be wrong here). Just waiting on the last box from him with that and the triple sticks.

I have not be able to look through the crawlbox thread yet, but it was definitely enlightening seeing the inside of it from the post you linked! Thanks again Greg!
