    So my dad went down to u-haul yesterday to get a trailer to tow a volvo back to my house. They told him the combined weight of the Volvo and the trailer was 4200 lbs and the weight of the Tacoma in the system as 4100 lbs. So u-haul wouldn't give him a trailer cause the trailer weight, exceeded the weight of a double cab, long bed. Does this sound right for them to do?

    BTW... it would have cost $55 for a day with the trailer. We ended up having a local towing company tow it to our house for $90.

    Tow package is rated for 6500 lbs if you got it. Uhaul is pretty picky due to all of the liability issues.

    With the tow package it's interesting that they would not rent the trailer...but they have to be super conservative to avoid any legal issues.

    U-haul did the right thing in this lawsuit based country. But $90 ain't bad.

    i have heard alot of people going to a different uhaul in town and telling them that they are towing a civic or a miata just something really small and light haha

    I have read time and time again...

    The best thing to tell U-Haul is that you'll be towing a VW bug or mini cooper. Something ridiculously light. Even though the Tacoma w/ tow pkg is rated at pulling 6500 lbs, they can still refuse to rent it to you.

    Plenty of people have had success at telling the U-Haul person that they'll be towing a VW bug

    My dad and I did that when we had to tow an 87 Toyota pickup out of his driveway to the junkyard. Even though the truck had no engine, tranny, doors, hood, gas tank, seats etc. But yeah U-haul is just trying to save themselves a lawsuit.

    And when we did tow the truck I could hardly tell there was anything in tow, I love my Tacoma!!!!

    Yea I hear you. We have towed a small excavator from home depot before and the only reason we could tell it was back there was because there were no brakes on the trailer...

    I did a car hauler from those basta*ds, I had to take them out to the Taco and prove the 6500 rating. There records are for a 2wd 4cyl, hence the 4200 rating.

    got 15.5 loaded with a Saturn 4door. 19 with just trailer,no overdrive and I get 22 normal.

    they said 4100 was the weight of the truck and the weight of the car and trailer was going to be 4200
