I'm glad they at least got those tight, maybe Toyota figured since the Ubolts are so loose when the axle finally separates from the rest of truck the driveshaft will hold it all together haha...:D

After stumbling upon this thread and the 3rd gen thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/check-your-u-bolts.397913/#post-11023532 last week I checked mine yesterday. I loosened them a 1/4 turn or so then set the torque wrench at 37. Sure enough after about a 1/4 turn it clicked. I brought them all up to 65 for now.

Since I've owned the truck I've had a squeak from the rear and a vibration/shudder when I take my foot of the gas between 45-60. Today the vibration was gone and the squeak was much better.

    Thank you

I just checked mine and boy were they loose! I tried to torque them to 65 but got scared as I didn't think I would ever get there and would break something. I settled for 50 ft/lbs. Will see if that addresses my shuttering that I've noticed since getting my rig back from Toyota. Thanks for the heads up on this issue.

So, after 21 pages of people agreeing that you should torque your u-bolts down more than 37 foot lbs(we will be torquing them down to 80+), can anyone state the proper torque setting for the leaf hanger bolts?

Provided you are just doing a retorque, on the ground is fine.

Most of the online parts suppliers are showing 65 ft lbs on their charts for 1/2 U-bolts. I have a rattle in the back of the Taco, going over bumps, I need to check mine to!

I am with you. I am not sure that I would swallow whole without question what the engineers at Toyota say. Didn't Toyota engineers put the secondary air pump on starting 2012? That worked out well.
