Ubolts under torqued

Yeah, well Toyota can take that 37ft.lb figure & torque their own trucks if they want to. Like I stated earlier in this thread theres no way in hell ANY vehicle I took a wrench to would roll out of my driveway with that setting, go about 80ft lbs. call it a day (1st gens are 90ft.lbs.)

 

The 37 ftlbs is a misprint

 

I feel the same way about their stock leafsprings too, and yet almost 15 years later, they're still here...

Chris4x4 tried several times to address this with Toyota to no avail....

Not that I agree with DoorDing ever but he did address this earlier in his post

Well here ya go, 06' 2nd gen, U bolts have never been off, besides it's a stock 2-leaf w/overload, no TSB, so you KNOW they haven't been touched...

When I changed out my leafs on my 06 they were tight but it was due to rust. After a couple of minutes hitting them with a impact and poor results , I just cut the U bolts with a torch.

 

Note the release torque will always be higher than the tightening torque. For a good comparison, loosen a lugnut with the same torque wrench and see what readings you get. Of course, this is only meaningful if the lugnut has previously been torqued properly to 83 ft-lb.

 

just checked mine. factory 2+overload untouched as far as i know. set wrench at 60ft/lbs and cranked on them a good turn each going 1/4 turn at a time.

they weren't loose by any means, and all seemed to have the same torque on them. i would take a wild guess with my super-calibrated arms and say they were about 40 to break free.

i didn't go to 73, or even 90 for that matter, because they've apparently been fine for the last 5 years. for the record i would credit those u-bolts with being able to take 90ft/lbs without any trouble. if they cant then toyota needs a new hardware supplier or i need a new truck

I don't know how this ubolt story will turn out for all involved, but I took mine up to 60 lbs back in June and no big deal either way.
