UCA’s required ?

    I’ve picked up another Tacoma and will lift this one like all the others and have installed most of the lift parts, etc..myself.

    I’m looking at the Fox setup from your website and it says, UCA’s required ? I know what aftermarket UCA’s are for (alignment camber) so why does it say Required ?

    Upper control arms are required on those coilovers due to the shocks having more travel than stock. The 0-2" travel coilovers don't require an aftermarket upper control arm since they don't have as much shock travel.

    Yeah, I’ve read all that. But if the coilover is the same length with the ability to cycle more, how could it harm the coilover, if it only restricts that cycling to a shorter distance ?

    Not trying to be a pain, just want to understand the logic.

    Because unless you are limit strapped accordingly, the limiting factor will be your ball joint. The ball joint will hit/bind when the extended travel coilover reaches full extension.

    This is a common thing for using longer travel shocks on the front of an IFS truck, not something unique to us. Plenty of threads on here that discuss this

    0-2" Coilovers have 4.540" shock travel.
    0-3" Coilovers have 4.890" shock travel.

    The coilovers are not the same length. At full droop the steering, ball joints etc. are being maxed out which effect alignment. Aftermarket upper control arm fix these issues and allow for better alignment.

    So, if someone uses a 1/4” top spacer, it effectively has the same affect ?

    Yes, with a 1/4" spacer it is possible that you could start pushing the limits of articulation of the stock ball joint.

    You could get the coilovers, then decide if you want ucas later. Good chances you will though.

    I will get the UCA’s, because I want the caster set properly, no big deal. I’ve read so many of these topics about extended C/O’s, they all seem to give other information and warn about ball joints being stressed.

    But a 1/4” top spacer gives 1/2” more lift vs that 3/8’s of extra down travel from extended C/O’s.

    I would prefer to purchase from a company that actually works on the products they sell, that’s why I asked here.

    Every one of those were lifted, from torsion bar lift, spacers, drop bracket to coilovers.
