UCA Question- TC, SPC, Camburg

    Hey all,

    I was looking at getting some new UCAs for an upcoming 5100/OME 887 lift up front and narrowed down my search to Total Chaos UCA (uniball), SPC LR (balljoint) and Camburg (Moog balljoint). I wanted to stay away from uniball since I am currently in Colorado and deal with a lot of dirt, mud, salt, and wet conditions nearly everyday. First off, recommendations between these three? Camburgs and SPC are the exact same price with TC being around $200 more. Also, I noticed two different versions of the SPC LR UCAs? One was more of full stamped metal and the other was a mix of stamped and tubular. Are there different variations to SPC LR UCAs? If so, which style is newer/better? I also am going to be running 285/75/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on SCS Ray 10 17x8.5 -10 offset (if that matters at all for choice of UCA). Thanks!

    I would go with the SPCs since you're running 285/75/17. You're going to rub on the body mount but with the spcs you'll be able to pull the tires forward almost an inch away from the body mount plus its a closed system especially being in colorado its a plus. Stop by toytec lifts if you are local we are in Denver.

    My reasoning on going with Camburg ball joint UCA was to stick with a relatively common part.

    With the SPC arms you have a single source for ball joints. What happens if they change the design, run into a sourcing problem, go out of business? Probably unlikely but not with my luck.

    With the Camburg I feel more confident that I'll be able to find a spare part even if it takes buying a whole danged arm from Toyota (I kept my original ball joints for spares, too). Or if one breaks on a road trip all I need is a NAPA or O'Reilly's or worst case I might have to overnight one from Amazon.

    FWIW I debated about going with the JBA but at the time they were still dialing them in. They use a standard GM ball joint. At this point if I had it to do over I might go that way, although I can't say I don't like my Camburg. The poly bushings kind of suck when they start creaking but that's not Camburg's fault.
