Clear. Put 3 coats on but prob could use another heavy one on firewall but I’m gonna call it a success and be done. Color turned out cool.

Paint update - started putting the harness back on and was scratching the rough paint in the tight spots under fender rail so my worry about the clear coat was correct. Have to wetsand it all and do another 2 coats with more flow on the gun so I get better coverage. Kinda sucks. I would rather have orange peel that was thick and strong in the engine bay. So, gotta spend saturday prepping and painting instead of installing shit. Kind of a bummer.

    Ended up doing more clear.

UPDATE- DON'T PAINT YOUR ENGINE BAY. ITS A TRUCK

I finally got this pig done 100%. I started setting up to extend the 4wd/low gear light and realized that my prerunner has no fucking clue it has 4wd!! Some things are best kept a secret! No wiring. Just gonna heat shrink them and call it. The only problem I have is the 2wd speed sensor has a diff plug so gotta go to junk yard and hack off some plugs and tie into harness. Motor and the whole kit goin in manana! Just have finalize the mount setup.

Im sick of wasting money. Just had to get 8x6.5-8x170 adaptors for rear and now I need hubcentric rings for front and rear. So, I have to buy 2 sets of 4 cause the hub bore is diff on both axles.

For anyone who is just building a 1 ton 3 link setup for fun like me and not competition I highly suggest you match your front and rear axles. I also don't know why I chose a super duty ford (I got an overpriced round trip ticket on the hype train!). I should have just got 2 early 90's chevys or fords from the same damn truck! Would have saved me a shit ton of time and at least $1000. Plus super duty brake kits are like 50% more than every other kit and so are ring and pinion sets. Learning is a bad investment in the car world!

Didn't have much time today but got the first half of the mounts done at least. A little tough to weld with a radius gap but they turned out so so. First time welding a joint with the new hood. I can see great but my technique is still not acceptable yet. Hopefully that changes soon.

Know you painted them but I'd box in those engine mounts if you're wheeling this thing pretty hard.

Fuck I was gonna too!. Is that from a solid mount setup or a failed rubber mount??

Full disclosure it was from an accident my donor truck was in, but these are notorious to crumple on big impacts when wheeling - these were repurposed into these:

What size tube is your cage made of or did you use smaller tube in the windshield section?
    DIY or shop installed?

Ive done several race motor solid mount setups in 4cyl awd cars and they twist when they torque a lot and I never had any issues. I was looking at the factory engine mount design and the force is going to transfer to about 1.5 inches directly down where the mount is super strong. So, if the trans/t case mount is strong, it should have no lateral movement. My setup is not gonna have any bolts like those ones you have that will cause movement. Its all metal. Idk, its just theory now. Ill prob just leave them cause that black paint is impossible to get off!

I'm considering a cage some day in the limo if I don't buy a second truck to beat on later on.

Yeah, I want JD inner fenders and to custom build a core support, but I don't have the time or space right now nor the money to start down that rabbit hole yet. Engine cage would be nice.
