My vehicle is NOT equipped with A-TRAC (button down by cigarette lighter). Ergo, everything was off.

But even though you appear to be the Yoda of Tacoma, I'd like to say, it was hella fun and even if there was some lingering artificial intelligence secretly still "ON", it didn't interfere with anything.

    Whatever.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
09 4x4 sports still have TRAC...a lessened version of ATRAC. ATRAC is only on OR models w/ the locker

Unless you are in Canada as I think they have A-TRAC, at least that's how it's advertized on the website and in the brochure. There is no A-TRAC button though so who knows. Maybe it just has A-TRAC and it gets engaged the same as TRAC on the other trucks?

Yeah it's sort of weird. In the brochure it says that the 2WD models have TRAC and the 4WD models have "Active Traction Control or A-TRAC", regardless of trim.

The website then has this blurb:

"All Tacoma models feature the advanced command delivered by Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control - helping to handle slippery conditions on or off-road. 4x4 TRD Offroad and Sport Packages feature an A-TRAC Cut-off Switch to better handle situations where full engine power is needed at all four wheels"

I assume it's the same system given that the acronym is the same but who knows. The owners manual isn't the greatest in explaining all of that stuff.

That's for sure! Read that section about 4 times. :confused:Sadly, would trade all of this stuff for a good quality braking system!

Is this the same manual that says you can't turn off VSC in 4hi?

With ALSD off and VSC off, I've cut doughnuts and done burnouts without any interference what so ever from the computer, it works just like an open diff without any throttle/brake controls.

    So many things to remember!

Has anyone been crawling and had an airbag go off? That would suck! And hurt!

I was wondering about this too! When I turn the Traction Control (VSC?) off on my 08 it turns the Auto LSD on, and it really pisses me off! I think I might try the hold down method. I want to put the damn truck sideways on the dirt/snow/mud or whatever, but the truck won't let me!

Yeah, I need to know what combination of buttons I need to press to enable me to do donuts in a snowy parking lot.

Being the first one to our office and the last one to leave, that is how I release some frustrations. It's pretty important to me and there better be a way to do it.

For 2009 AC TRD Off Road 4x4 Manual:

    1. stop (vehicle must not be moving or it wont work)
    2. hold VSC OFF button for several seconds.(more than a few, hold it down for 10 seconds just to be sure)
You should be able to donuts now.
Took me a couple months before i figured out how to disable it, and boy did it piss me off when the ABS and traction control would automatically come on.
I cant guarantee for the SPORT model, but thats how it works on mine.

on my sport model, retested last week, i CANNOT spin the rear in 2WD, even if I gold the button forever. I will kick the rear a tad then start beeping and bring it back.

I will post videos because I'm curious to find anyone with a factory truck working differently.

you have to be stopped to fully disengage vsc (so that no a-lsd light illuminates).

to do donuts (for any model)- from a stop, hold the vsc button so ONLY the car sliding around (vsc light) illuminates, and donut away. if you are not stopped, you will only be able to engage a-lsd (and still have vsc on minus the traction control, only stability).

    hopefully this helps...

I just held down the button and it displayed the VSC OFF and no AUTO LSD light was there. My question is why was there no beep sound when i held the button down?

Secondary air filter removal, K&N drop in, Removed front mud flaps, Toyota all weather matts, skid plate, bug guard. Bilstein 5100's all around fronts set at 2.5", OME add a leaf, Goodyear Wrangler Authority 265/70/17, stubby 6.5" antenna, smoked tail lights, blacked out badges.
Mine didn't beep either, but I was able to spin the tires in the rain, and drift around corners, with no "assistance" problems. To sum it up. It can be turned off, and it works.
