@uhplifted how do you like the DCLB for SoCal? Your suspension mods didn't change ride height, right? I'm thinking of getting a double cab long bed off road and leaving the suspension stock. Mostly thinking of getting into some beginner to intermediate trails in SoCal and the surrounding areas. Worried that I may benefit from a short bed. A lot of people have only negative things to say about the long bed. But the short bed doesn't seem as convenient for overlanding and longer trips.

I love my suspension. It did change ride height, but I never took measurements so my best guesstimate would be about 2” of additional lift.

I ran Rowher and Drinkwater both with stock suspension, Rowher with stock suspension and tires. Didn’t have any problems with the long bed except for one time high centering over a mound. Could have been easily avoided but it was my first time ever on dirt. I have yet to run a trail (although I don’t wheel much at al anymore) that a short bed could do that I couldn’t. You just have to take different lines. For what you seem to plan on doing, you’ll be fine with a long bed. I love my longbed, the only thing that sucks is finding parking, but it wouldn’t be much better with a short bed either

I plan to mostly overland and I see people using Outbacks, CRVs, and all sorts of other vehicles and getting around just fine. I never want to rock crawl or tree stump. The sounds of scraping a 40k truck are too strong for me to get into that. That being said I will be hauling a mountain bike frequently and a short kayak somewhat regularly (weekends). Looking forward to using a cheap truck tent and laying in the bed vs. getting into the RTT scene.

Ya you'll be fine with stock suspension. I realized that as fun as it is to go do all those trails, it's just not my favorite thing. And running the risk of destroying my only vehicle was not something that I wanted to do. As much as I love driving, I also hate it too. I'd much rather just spend my time down by the beach.

If you do get the long bed, I have a bed tent that I used maybe twice that I can sell you. I believe it is this one. When the time comes and if you're interested, I'll give ya a good deal on it (less than $100).
