Actually it is very sturdy on level ground, haven't had it on anything else yet. The only thing remotely tipsy would have been the Mug on there, which wasn't really tipsy, but with a lil force it could have slid off.

I've read that the canister stoves are not the best for winter camping, they need extra attention. But keeping the canister packed with all your clothes seems to work for everyone else using canister stoves, so I will go that route.

I also wanted to mention that the piezo lighter worked great! Lit the stove the first time everytime until i made the mistake of dropping water on the canister!

I have the snow peak stove from REI. I replace my msr pocket rocket with it. At home it boiled water just over 1 min. It cooks good at altitude And its stable.

I did have a little issue with my jetboil performing in the cold. Took a bit longer to bring 2 cups to a boil but it still wasn't too bad. and sleeping with the canister wasn't too fun... just a few minor inconveniences

got more info on the local REI garage gear sale...they are allowing 30 people at a time. the sale starts at 10 but you have to be in line by 920 to get a ticket to allow you to shop. and then you only get 15 minutes to shop!! are they insane!?!?! I can't possibly find everything I need in that amount of time! I may have to team up with a friend....

Here is my stove. Bought it on Craigslist a while back. Nothing special about it at all...
    It says it's a Coleman Peak 1.

It heats things up just fine. No problems yet.

So here is my revised bed platform:

This is how it would sit with the tailgate up. The folding portion stowed.

When ready to sleep, pull the platform out. It slides forward just enough so that the sheet behind it also rests on it for added support. It's just wide enough that the back corners touch where the wheel wells start coming in when it's pushed back.

Folding cover goes on top of the platform support.

I've been thinking about it some more and I think I could put some folding legs under the platform stand which could be extended to use it as a table. I'd have to fill in the holes on top of course.

    It's not metal. It's a composite material.

    I think it's a plastic/composite bed so it won't rust.

I'm weird when it comes to hiking.

I LOVE to backpack, camp, explore, etc., but I cannot stand day hikes. Especially long ones.

I think you hike all day to get there, are too tired to enjoy the scenery/activities, then have to hike all the way out. Yuck. If I'm not camping there (or hiking as a part of a camping trip), then I'd rather do something else.
