FYI - lighting fireworks on forest service land here is illegal...self defense or not.

ah man! what are the carrying permits like up there? We are going to be doing a lot of camping up in the Flathead N.F. would we get busted if we got caught with a gun? I am venturing to say yes if fireworks are illegal.

Guns? Guns are OK...hell you're out of place if you DON'T have one. Just fireworks are bad.
You can even have guns in national parks now too...for self defense, nothing else. Thats the only reason I'm considering getting a gun.. I hike a lot. Mostly in the NP's. So having a gun is just a safety precaution for me.

So when are you coming to MT? Might be able to suggest a few more stops on your trip...

I was going to say. It seems like it would be stupid not to have one. We are going to have a few shot guns with us just in case we have conflicts with the bears.

It will probably be July-August that we will be out there. I will take any suggestions! I am currently trying to get the trip all put together.

I would highly recommend going to Red Lodge, over the Bear-Tooth Pass and then on to Yellowstone if you are heading that way!

I dont' currently have a gun :anonymous: But there has been more than one incident that made me wish I had one! I would recommend a handgun of some sort...shotguns frighten the other tourists too much. And bear spray...always have the bear spray handy!

The flathead area is in the NW and a little far away from me in the SW but its gorgeous up there! I take it you will be going to Glacier NP? I have a book on the hiking trails there...be happy to recommend a few if you want. And we have a few members from the area as well...drop by Montana Taco and say hi to the folks, let them know you'll be up this way. I'm sure they'll have ideas for you too.

And August? We'd be due for a TW meet by then....just sayin'

 OOOH! OOOH! Pick me! I know Yellowstone by heart...anywhere worth seeing you need to talk to me. And, yes, the Beartooth highway is awesome. Took Toy up there for the first time last summer...

    sweet! thanks for the recommendation!
Awesome! I will most definitely be going up to Glacier. I was out there about 7 years ago. I have some family just outside of Missoula. It is so pretty out there. I think the shotguns will be kept in the car when we are car camping (we are doing a mix of car/ backpack/ canoe). I will definitely have my handgun though. I will have to check in with everyone up there! That would be totally awesome if a meet is going on while I am there!

I will pm you here in a few weeks. All of us are supposed to be meeting up to decide on a date for the trip.

    Thanks!
