    Hey!

Currently going through a battle with Toyota.. Couple weeks back I hit a bump on a side road going no more than 30k/hr both my passenger and driver side rollover curtain bags deployed. There's no damage or impact to the vehicle at all. Has anyone gone through this themselves or know someone that has? They just came out to inspect the black box but pretty much leaving me high and dry. I'm putting together a case against them but I want more info if this had occurred before. I know yota has had issues with airbags either prematurely deploying or not at all... currently just pissed.

I'd imagine, I'd be pissed too! Let us know what happens though! Good luck!

You're still under warranty, correct? I'm sure they'll fix it if there are no body damages shown.

I believe the SRS has a lifetime warranty also, at least here in the States.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on as far as a case against Toyota. The side curtain air bags were triggered due to the Yaw Sensors that detected a possible roll over 30 kph = 18.6 mph. That is what they are designed to do.

Maybe you would be better advised to go after the city for the poorly maintained road. Probably a much better case. Or file it as an accident on your insurance.

Not really a good case either. In order to sue a city for damage from a road defect you must inform the city of the road defect prior to your claim of damage to your truck.

Good point. I would file it on my insurance. After all that is what it is for.

    404 Toyota defect not found.

When you hit the bump... were you on a cambered turn? Or on the side shoulder that had an angle on it??

How big of a bump are you talking? I've hit some nice sized ones and nothing happened here.

    Anywho... intrested for resolution!

Not sure about Cali but in Florida an 08 vehicle with 2 air bags deployed would be totalled by the insurance company.

    OP's vehicle looks to be a '14...

I don't think it matters by state at all... Is the US dollar worth more in Florida than Cali?

Any vehicle having airbags deployed is close to totaled I would believe... not just the air bag costs, the damage to the car they create when they go off.

    Between the 2, that's a good amount of $$$.

And considering most vehicles now a days have more than just 2 airbags deployed... yeah... if they deploy, you can say total loss...

Edit: I need to learn how to spell vehicle...

I just did not want to speak for a state I dont reside in and dont have first hand knowledge of. But if you think about it, yes the dollar is worth more in Fl since it buys more in Florida.

I'm struggling though as this seems ridiculously sensitive and unnecessary. That's a lot of damage for what it thought of as 'potential' rollover.

    I'm subscribed.

I have a hard time believing all those bags went off. I'm guessing we don't have the whole story. Please prove me wrong.

The OPs side curtains deployed. This apparently happens when the truck senses that a roll over is immenant. My tacoma has a button disabling this for when I am 4 wheeling. But these should not go off on the street on less you are in a wreck.

Yes I am aware of disabling them but I wasn't 4x4 I was just on a gravel road.. I shouldn't have to turn them off in that case you know? That's what I'm struggling with.

There was a Youtube video of someone testing a Colorado and Tacoma Off Road and the Canyon popped the Head Curtain Bags because they don't have the disable button that we do.

    Yes, I'm aware.

The SRS of Toyota trucks is very robust. It takes many factors to trigger the 'bags. It's highly unlikely that a bumpy road would cause all those bags to deploy. I'm wondering if some sort of electrical work was done recently. For example, a new stereo.

I'm not calling the Op a lier, but this would be very isolated case. I'm very curious what Toyota will do.

No electrical work. I know it's a difficult time comprehending they went off but that is why I'm dealing with Toyota. I straight up see no reason why they went off and now I'm left with the damage. Hence my frustration. They came to inspect the EDR but have not gotten back to me with what they found

This is where the Tacoma's high residual value works against you. Different insurance companies have different thresholds for total loss. If KBB on the truck is still $22k and the repair costs $10k, some insurers will opt for repair. In this case the repair should be far less than $10k. Just replacement airbags, headliner, and maybe A/B-pillar trim.
