Go to a sign shop and ask them to make a decal for you or just pull the badges off then reattach when done.

I've done a mod or two
Your emblems are a stencil, just paint and then remove em, actually would be pretty cool

The spacing is my main concern with the whole reattaching thing. How would I keep the spacing?

What do you mean, like paint them, bed-line the truck then reattach?

The tailgate emblems don't come off all that easily. I just removed some off of mine last week and it wasn't fun. I wouldn't recommend spraying over them and removing as a stencil. You'll make a mess and ruin your new spray job.

I would either do without badges or just order some new ones. Since your'e going with the bed liner you will likely want the raised letter badges. I opted for some matte black decals to use on my new paint, but that probably wouldn't stand out well on your textured paint.

If you take your truck in the designer shouldn't have much issue replicating the design or size of the badge. You can then cover your current badge with said decal and peel off after spraying.

At least in my head that is how I picture it working.

Take a pencil rubbing of the emblems.

The problem is going to be re-attaching the emblems on top of the coating. With a rougher coating, they won't stick as well unless you use some serious glue or something. Foam tape would look weird (IMO) since it would stick out even more.

My plan was to make a stencil and just paint them on, because you're right, they aren't sticking to the lining.

Ill try the pencil rubbing idea, thanks!

Oh I gotcha, thought you just wanted to get the letter placements for the emblems right.

Honestly, stencils on rough surfaces like that are going to be pretty hard to look good, especially that small. Unless you're able to make a stencil out of thin, extremely pliable self adhesive material, whatever you paint will likely bleed behind the stencil.

What would be pretty bad ass looking (IMO) would be like a "ghosted" stencil of the full sized logo like you see on the older Tacomas/pickups. Of course I can't find if now, but I seem to remember a guy who painted (maybe bed-lined?) his tailgate, then used a stencil to paint the "TOYOTA" logo in a slightly different finish.
