***UPDATED*** 3rd Gen Multimedia Updates

For those who mentioned album art:

Not displaying album art except when the vehicle is in Park is a “safety feature” intended to avoid distracting us while we drive. I researched it when my truck didn’t display album art for Sirius XM like my wife’s Crosstrek does. If anyone figures out a way to make it display album artwork all the time, start a new thread and tell a moderator to make it a sticky!

 

Interesting. Didn't know. Thanks for the info. It always has displayed in my past trucks so I thought it was a software bug, but I'm a first time (happy) Toyota owner. And I was just going through my FLAC files checking...and album art is in the files. I have to say...I don't like that safety feature.

What a load of horseshit. Why not have the whole screen turn off then? It's safer that way. Like the whole experience is built around only the driver and not having passengers. My 2017 shows album art as I drive and I haven't yet crashed because of it.

Yeah right.... But if you get blasted while driving by too high a volume level on Navigation or during bluetooth cellphone calls, you have to try to fumble though on-screen menus to fix the volume. Instead of simply turning the fukkin volume knob on the HU. Same for trying to navigate through folders on the USB flash drive... gotta step through fukkin menus instead of simply turning the Tune/Scroll knob. Makes no fukkin sense at all as far as safety goes.

 

Agreed. I searched my operator's manual and according to it, USB cover art should display. The same with Bluetooth, Android Auto, etc. There's also a setting in "Menu", "Settings", "Audio" to turn displayed cover art ON/OFF. Of course mine was on before the HU update and it still is now.

Just doing a quick google search, apparently this has been a Toyota issue (safety issue?) for a while now. Bummer.

Sorry for the rookie question but I updated one year ago. Have there been any updates I need to do for a 2019? I can't make head or tails out of the kwi file names.

 

When I checked my model numbers I had two listed.

19TDT2NA-EA1B at version 1730
17TMT2NA-DA50 at version 1110

I did the first one, the audio, cause the version on the downloaded file was higher, 1730 versus the new one 1785.

But for the second one according to the PDF in the downloaded files it has a version of 0041. Mine is at 1110. Should I still update that one or leave it be?

 

What is your current version?

And all of you with cover art issues (2020+ models), have you tried this?

Same here. I've successfully done updates a few times over the years, but this time around my 2017 wouldn't see it.
I did have an OTA update recently, and then a few days back the headunit randomly rebooted while I was driving, so
there might have been something else going on in the system. Maybe I'll try updating again tonight.

So this morning I updated to A5 and want to thank OP for this! I sat in the garage and simply used ACC without starting truck and it worked fine. Note: I had a battery tender connected so wasn't worried about battery running down...everything appears to work fine after I turned off then turned back to ACC. Still have all my stations and all screens look fine and even my startup image and screen off images were still there. The software updates screen shows today's date and the previous and current version. <3

 

Does the update give any info on what It's updating?

 

Not during the update process, but the TSB does.

I currently have Radio 0101A4, Audio 00099, DSP A10010, Sub 010001, Can 130209.

I am still confused how a 2017 radio does not have screen mirroring with a cell phone, but I guess Toyota is very far behind.
In fact, my 2017 tacoma has the exact same functionality as my 2011 Lexus for Nav and entertainment. They changed nothing in 6 years.
